Some sort of reminder of where you can get 3% would be nice, maybe a list of vendors within the Apple Card view. Half the time I forget Panera offers 3% until I see charges when my wife goes.
Apple has it on the Apple Card site, but it’d be nice to have it in the wallet view.

Ace Hardware stores are often franchised and locally owned. Your local neighborhood hardware store may even be one of them... several of mine are/were.
To be precise, Ace is a cooperative. ALL Ace stores are independently owned and operated but share supply chains, buying power, and branding.

I’d like another gas station, say 7-11. Now that they have bought speedway that covers a large part of the country.

Good for them. It bugs me to no end that you STILL can’t use Apple Pay at all at Home Depot, regardless of what card you have. Like, seriously. What year is it? This is a well deserved slap in the face for them. Let Ace Hardware get all that sweet Apple Pay business.

. . . These petty limited-time 3% bonus offers . . .
The point of the article here was to make folks aware that using Apple Pay at Ace Hardware will now result in 3% cash back - it is NOT limited-time.

Same with the other retailers who have similar arrangements for users of Apple Pay.

You are right that many cards have limited time arrangements, require card users to specify what they want to have the higher cash-back used for each quarter, and so forth. That is not what Apple is doing here.

Nothing beats BofA Platinum Rewards. if you have 100k in the bank (it can be from your IRA which counts), you get 3% on everything and 2.5 on your choice category you can change every month. So when I started home improvement like Ace was 5.25% cash back. Now I switched it to online which I do anyways. If i want to buy furniture, I simply change my category for that month. Then change back.

Funny because that’s exactly how it is at my local ace. You realize Aces are individually owned right?
Yes, I'm aware. We've been going to the same local store for like 30 years now. Same employees have always been working there for the most part. They're more knowledgeable and helpful than any other hardware store I've stepped foot in. And I like to support the small places that aren't attached to corporations whenever I can.

Occasionally in the Wallet app, when you tap on your Apple Card, just above your latest transactions list, swipeable reminders will reminder you about 3% at a certain merchant. Other times it’ll have other reminders like setup scheduled payments OR a “hey don’t forget to use your at places like Amazon and more to get 1% back”

Are these stores 3% cash back with Apple Pay/Card on a rotating basis, or are they permanent? If they are permanent then I need to adjust my T-mobile payments.

Permanent. Even for places that aren’t a part of the 3% cash back tier but accept Apple Pay where you make recurring purchases or pay bills, 2% cash back can be decent.

Other times there are temporary perks at other merchants, but the payout may not necessarily be a 3% cash back reward.

Apple Card users will now receive 3% Daily Cash on purchases made at Ace Hardware stores in the U.S., in the Ace Hardware app, and on AceHardware.com.

apple-card-via-apple-pay.jpeg

To be eligible for 3% Daily Cash, the purchase must be completed via Apple Pay using the digital version of the Apple Card in the Wallet app on the iPhone or Apple Watch. Purchases made with a physical Apple Card will still receive 1% Daily Cash.

Ace Hardware is the first home improvement retailer to offer 3% Daily Cash for purchases made with an Apple Card via Apple Pay, up from the standard 2% rate. Other businesses that offer 3% Daily Cash in the U.S. include Apple, Duane Reade, Exxon, Mobil, Nike, Panera Bread, T-Mobile, Uber, Uber Eats, and Walgreens.

Apple Card is Apple's credit card, launched in 2019 in partnership with Goldman Sachs. The credit card remains exclusive to U.S. residents and can be managed completely through the Wallet app on an iPhone or Apple Watch, with features including color-coded spending summaries, daily cashback, and no fees of any kind beyond interest.

Apple Card needs the ability to download transactions, or I can’t use it for tax deductible purchases like Ace Hardware. Apple Card features have stagnated.

More surprised Ace Hardware accepts Apple Pay than Apple believing Ace Hardware was a valuable addition to their portfolio with a decent amount of Apple Card holders.

I’m not close to an Ace now, but they are great.

Also wondering why all of apples 3% merchants are like 100 years old lol… obviously t mobile and Uber aren’t but as far as tech goes they are at least 100.

Except that you have to wait a month between category changes and the category bonus is only up to $2500 of spending per quarter.

You can download statements and transactions to your phone using the app, or log in to your Apple Card account using your computer and do the same thing. On the iPhone you can save them as .CSV, .OFX, .QFX, or .QBO file.

The Apple Card certainly doesn’t offer the best rewards, but combined with its privacy and security features, it makes for a compelling package in my opinion. They don’t share your purchase data with marketers and you can change the CCV code on the fly. Daily cash back is also nice and due to how ubiquoitous Apple Pay has become at all of the businesses I frequent, it’s become a de facto 2% cash back card for me.

Good for people who shop there. But I'll continue supporting my local neighborhood hardware store. There's something valuable in being on a first name basis with employees, and asking questions to someone that's been working there for many years.
I’m on a first name basis with employees at Ace … and it’s owned locally. The majority of Ace stores are owned by small business owners in communities.

BofA has a "Preferred" Premium Rewards VISA Signature card that costs $95 a year that does not have that restriction, and if you have Platinum balance levels like @HaddockW mentioned, you get 3.5% on travel and dining and 2.62% on everything else. If you use the card a lot it can really add up to some nice rewards points.

Edit: Fixed the card name.

Man, this is one small list and most of the names have been on it for quite a while. I wonder why more brands are joining this — is it them or is it apple?..

You mean Amex Blue Cash Preferred? I have this card and I like it but it does have few caveats:
  • $95 annual fee.
  • 6% on grocery is capped at first $6,000 (1% after). You need to spend around $1600 or more from qualifying groceries to recoup the annual fee.
  • 2.7% foreign transaction fee.
On the plus side, it offers 6% cash back on streaming and App Store purchases and subscriptions. 3% on gas and transit (taxi, ride sharing, train, bus, tolls, and parking) isn't bad either.

My unlimited cash rewards visa card says preferred on it... I am enrolled in their platinum honors tier. There's no fee for my card. Are we talking about different cards? It's a grey cash back only card, not a points card. My customized cash rewards card also says preferred on it, but it's red... that's the one I've seen limit cash back on selected 3% categories after exceeding $2500 in a quarter.

Sorry... my mistake. The card I have and was referring to is the Premium Rewards VISA Signature. The card is black.
