Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a brand new macbook pro, see sig, from best buy. I was rather curious and decided to check my warranty status on apples website, and it said that I was covered under apple care until an estimated date of october 9th 2013. My "problem" is that I didn't buy apple care, although I was planning on doing it after x-mas. After seeing this though, Im wondering if for some reason, my computer already has applecare past the one year manufacturers warranty?

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine... suddenly his MacBook Pro was covered with AppleCare after 6 months of usage or so. Don't know how or why, but he still has it.

Guess even Apple has bugs in their systems. ;)

Thats awesome, hopefully it remains on there, and if it does, I'll make sure to print out a copy just for proof, if in fact it does disappear one day.

Seems as if I've lucked out.

YOu're lucky,haha.
Yes,just print out a copy of it and you can say that you activated, but now its gone :p

A more likely explanation is Best Buy had previously sold that MBP with AppleCare and took it back as a return and didn't deactivate AC.

yeah, probably something like that happened or the guy entered wrong serial number and it happened to be your mbp?

Best Buy doesn't sell Applecare. They push their own extended warrantees.

Unless it was sold, and not opened, there is no way that is possible..The machine was wrapped in all the plastic, and nothing was ever touched inside the box.

Just got off the phone with apple, It seems that someone registered my machine for apple care by mistake, so good news is my machine is in fact brand new. And The even better news, their letting me keep the apple care:cool:

So I guess that happens. Congrats then.

Congrats!! :D

Crossed my fingers and checked my status...still only 1 year :(

I was planning on buying Applecare in a few months though.

Honesty is a virtue and can pay dividends. It also is good that Apple is nice to customers (unlike Dell; I had a problem with a $2000 Dell workstation with Extended Warranty and they verbally abused me!)

Best Buy doesn't sell Applecare.

Sure they do. They just don't push it. But you can buy the Applecare off the shelf. It's up there with the accessories. At least out here they do. Don't know about other areas. Our Best Buys will sell things that others don't for some reason.
