Do you know where these locations are? It's never been made clear to me. On the isolated incidents that I have asked business sales about it calls weren't returned and I forgot about it. I've never received on-site service on Pros and under, and it would be good to know where and how on-site can be expected.

The T+C describe this on Apple's website. For Europe it is within 50 miles of an Apple service centre (and OK I have no idea where they are so it doesn't really help!). At the moment I don't have a desktop, but if I got one I would find out, because I don't fancy lugging an MP about more than I have to.

AC is essentially insurance - it replaces an uncertain cost (which may be anything from zero to replacement cost - or more even if you have a series of repairs) with a certain fixed cost. On average, though, you will be paying more by purchasing the AC, unless Apple are selling it at a loss which is unlikely. Its value depends how risk-averse you are regarding the uncertain costs. Hence this is why we ensure stuff that we'd have a hard time replacing if the worst happens (houses, cars etc) but not so less expensive items.

How could one possibly verify that before buying?

Make sure it's stated on the page, and ask the seller if it's not. Most importantly, you look for a seller with positive feedback. The person I bought mine from had over 99% positive feedback, from around 240 people, so that tells you something...There were also similar items previously sold, so someone would've left negative feedback.
