I moved/travel a lot. That's why I went with the Apple Care warranty. To be honest, I haven't used it, but I'd imagine that if I had a problem in Japan, it's easier/cheaper to get fixed at an Apple Store than via Best Buy.

Do they have Best Buys outside of the US or Mexico?

They are starting to pop up.

Best Buy's GSBTP is not that bad, of the "protection plans" on the market, its def. one of the better ones. Ive had two laptops replaced (one was accidental damage) an ipod, and my grandparent's TV (power surge).

That being said, i did just cancel my monthly iphone coverage through them and replaced it with applecare. I lost my accidental damage coverage, but best buys was right at $14.99 or so a month.

you kinda have to just decide whether the accidental damage coverage is worth it. The procedure for apple products is to send it back to apple anyway, so its going to be a pretty trustworthy repair either way. and ive used the no lemon clause on one of the laptops, i love that.

Not to my knowledge and I don't think they'd be able to compete against the large European electronics chains. They'd end-up being like WalMart and pulling out of Germany.

But seriously, if you travel, APP is the way to go. I've never been a big fan of accidental/extended coverage on anything, but the APP was included with the machines (large university contracts).

Best Buy is a waste of money in all senses. Waste of money purchasing from them, and if you do, it's an even bigger waste of money doing extended warranty through them.

How is buying something from them wasting money? Are the products they sell not as good as other stores? For example, a MacBook Pro?

But, yeah, I'd go with Apple Care for warranty.

I would much rather buy from bestbuy than Apple for the initial purchase because best buys return policy is much better (at least in Canada). If it has a dead pixel it goes back no questions asked. Apple is not as good about returns

I would go with AppleCare for warranty work, but would initially buy it at BestBuy for their return policy....(45 Days for Silver Reward Customers)..

I would only get AppleCare. They replaced ALMOST EVERYTHING on my early 2008 MBP. I just got it back today. They replaced the screen, screen bezel, back case (behind the screen), upper case, logic board (2nd time), the keyboard and even gave me a new battery. Did it all with a smile.

Also, they let me return my iPad w/o a restocking fee! I HIGHLY recommend the staff at the Pioneer Square Apple in downtown PDX. It is a plus that they are close to me as well.

I believe the only thing the best buy warranty covers that apple care doesn't is accidental damage. But it's expensive, if I remember correctly it was like $440 for 3 years and $340 for 2 years.

I'm not sure how they'd handle your lost data, because they aren't going to give you the hard drive. They might let you go home and back it all up before doing the exchange, but then again they may not want you to leave the store with it. So they'd probably charge you $100 or something to transfer it all over.
