May be worth it, may not.
My iBook G4, which I gave to my daughter 6 months ago, came down with the dread Airport initiated kernel panic syndrome yesterday. If I had bought AppleCare for the machine, I would have been able to take it in and pay for the fix anyway. AppleCare would have run out at the end of July this year.
You pay your money and you take your chances.

It's worth it for sure. Don't even think about going too long without it.

Ssriously though, even if you don't use it and nothing goes wrong with your machine in 3 years it's worth it. Since we can't predict the future then you are better off having it.

I know a guy that had his G5 Tower mother board fry out on him and it cost him $1150 to get it repaired. Could have been $350.

My first Apple was an Apple ll in 1981. I have had Apples about every 2 or 3 years since and have never had a problem. I would say, however, that since the Apple Book gets tougher treatment and I would definitely buy Apple care from another vendor since I know it is cheaper elsewhere. Approx $200 for peace of mind is definitely worth it! Go for it!:)

I've been a mac user since the Mac Plus also and went thru many macs, and like you said, never had a problem with a mac UNTIL my G5 iMac started having GPU problems after the 1 year period ended and now my brothers brand new MBP is having problems with his screen... I miss the older macs that NEVER had problems!!

Those were the days long before Macs started using "PC" components like Intel chips & inexpensive HDs etc.

SCSI drives were WAY better, everything was way more expensive & only really were made for Macs....yet the computers were massively overpriced compared to the "specs" on Windows machines. I long for those days too but we sure got hit in the pocketbooks.

Now it looks like Macs aren't necessarily more durable than any similar priced PC you get your hands on. Now Apple has a larger marketshare as people who would normally just bought the cheaper machine might be more inclined to buy a Mac if its around the same purchase price. With that comes more headaches, returns & repairs.
