I'm going with AC+ this time but apparently my state prohibits Apple from selling it to me over the phone. The Apple CSR made me an appointment for Sunday at my local Apple store to buy it. I told him the last place I want to be this weekend is an Apple Store but he promised me with an appointment it will be painless for all concerned.

I have my iPad 2 with Square Trade and was really happy when I received the "discount" email this morning. But now? Very unhappy about this deductible change, in addition to reduction for cost of repairs.

I live three hours from an Apple Store. Impossible to leave my disabled husband to go there. Is there no other way to get Apple Care+ for my new iPad?

I love Square Trade, most of my stuff is covered by them. However, no tech support. Flame me if you want but sometimes it's nice to have a genius walk you through something. My understanding is that AppleCare+ and SQ have the same deductible on the iPad. I think I'm going with AppleCare+ this time.

Now, let's say I upgrade to the newer iPad next year, is it possible to carry the ST warranty over to the the new one?

I dont' think so but you can cancel and get a prorated refund. I've done that a few times when I've sold an item. Cancel and get a refund.

Ok so what does everyone think of this SquareTrade warranty offered via amazon.com
SquareTrade 3-Year Tablet Accidental Protection Warranty ($800-900) for $119.99

and for 3 years it looks like no deductible either! I'm going with this one I think

Has anyone figured out what Apple charges for a physically damaged New iPad repair/replacement? This is what I'm waiting to figure out before I possibly purchase a service plan.

Last person I knew that swapped their broken glass "2" paid $300.

I heard that was the case with the iPad 2, as long as the price didn't go up, I think the warranty is a little hard to justify for me. I'm pretty careful with my stuff. If it wasn't for that deductible I'd probably go for it though.

Well, no one has broken an iPad 3 yet. :) They might jack it up to push AC+.

Woah, this thread blew up. Needless to say I'm typing this on my new iPad, which I'll be buying AppleCare for tomorrow or the next day :) haha

Just purchased Applecare + over the phone from Apple. Easy process. Just gave my serial number and credit number, and I was good to go.

The only reason I went with ST for my iPad 1 and 2 was because of Applecare's lack of ADH coverage. Now that Applecare + offers ADH, it was a no-brainer.

It's called peace of mind...Frankly, neither my 1 or 2 have suffered any calamities, but I knew if I didn't get ADH for my 3, I would be SOL (Murphy's law).

Apparently if you buy the Tablet warranty from Amazon.com there is no deductible. ($49 if you buy iPad warranty directly from SquareTrade)
Amazon.com: squaretrade

This is the one I bought as I got the 64GB+4G new iPad
Amazon.com: SquareTrade 3-Year Tablet Accidental Protection Warranty ($800-900): Computers & Accessories

Make sure nothing happens to it for the first 30 days. From the link you posted: "ADH coverage begins on the 31st day after the item's purchase" ADH=Accidental Damage from Handling. Also realize they only cover up to (in your case) $899 for the life of the policy meaning If you destroy it 2 months in and they pay you $899 you get no coverage for the next 2 years 10 months. It's $899 for the life of the insurance (and you are out the sales tax) and you gave them $119. They aren't dumb, it all comes out even in the end.

its still unclear what the replacement cost is from Apple. The higher it is...the less value the Squaretrade warranty delivers.

Wirelessly posted

I did not get AC when I picked up my new iPad from a local Apple Store on launch day.
When I asked about adding it after the fact, I was told I had 30 days to add if interested, had to bring in my iPad to be inspected beforehand.

This is common knowledge. You can also order on the phone direct from Apple.

All you need to do is call Apple and add AC+; you don't need to have it inspected. I purchased our New iPad Friday, and added AC+ yesterday with a simple phone call.

The replacement cost from Apple without AC+ is now $299 for the new iPad, and $249 for the older models. That price does not include a device that has broken into multiple pieces. It "may" include a device that had liquid damage.

Where did you get this information from?

I did the same but according to some posters, Florida iPad owners are required to bring theirs in for inspection...Don't know why.

Ya it's quite expensive...I purchased AppleCare plus a few days after the iPad and glad I did. For $50, I can get my iPad replaced by a brand new one. Seems like I'll just do exactly that when it comes to selling this thing when the time comes.
And now I can carry it naked with ease of mind
