I understand the appeal with getting it with the phone/ipad, but do you need it as much with the watch? especially with the sapphire screen?

Had it on my very first watch, didn’t bother with either of the other two. In each case, I’m talking SSSB.

Unless you plan to wear it and do heavy manual labour in wouldn’t bother.

I would. If you break it you basically will pay about 75%-90% of what it would cost to buy a new one. For the series 4 to replace the screen it would cost I think around $300 and the 44 costs $430

Yes. The sapphire display doesn’t guarantee anything. The Apple Watch is the one product I would say AppleCare is absolutely necessary for, mainly due to our wrists constantly moving and coming into contact with everyday objects.

I have a SS AW3 and the screen popped, It was covered under AppleCare, luckily I only had a week left under AppleCare. If you purchase something worth $400-1000, def get additional warranty/support = AppleCare, especially on a device that you use daily.

AW is the only device I purchase AC on. Not phone, iPads or Macs.

I’ve never used it, however, in the 4 years I’ve been wearing the watches. Which means I’ll of course regret skipping in this year.

I’ve needed it twice with my AW3 Stainless. Dropped on tile once and shattered the sapphire screen instantly. The second time was my German Shepherd got a hold of it and shattered the screen. I will say the stainless was very tough and didn’t have a scratch. Anyways, I always get the AppleCare as it’s a small price to pay for bad days.

Absolutely. If you live an active lifestyle or a lifestyle where your watch is prone to impact or damage, it is absolutely worth it. It's even more justifiable now that you can just pay a small fee of $3.99 a month for it instead of the full $79. That can also be canceled at any time if you feel you don't need it anymore.

I have AppleCare for my series 3. Although nothing major happened so far with the watch, I used it for long hours at a time almost daily. The watch is especially useful as a fitness tracker and have accumulated my fair share of scratches on the glass surface.

So yeah, it really depends on your usage. Do you do a lot of outdoor activities with the watch like rock climbing, swimming, kayaking or outdoor camping? Then maybe you should consider getting one.

I am upgrading to a series 5 and I have placed an order for the space grey aluminium. That has AppleCare too.

Another reason for Apple Care Plus is advanced exchange. All watches have to be sent in for repairs. With advance exchange, they send you the replacement first and then you send yours back (credit card hold).

Why does that matter? If you have an intermittent issue that they can't duplicate, they will send yours back without repairing it. With advanced exchange, you never have to worry about that.

I toyed with this before I bought my AW4. While I'm not the clumsiest person in the world, I was still aware that this was something to be worn and I would be in contact with it at all times. Because of this, I purchased AppleCare. It's probably a gamble that I won't win but it was worth the peace of mine having it.

It's on your wrist where it's exposed. How many times do you whack your wrist just moving around? I do every day, so AppleCare is a must for me.

How can Apple justify being £50 more expensive than John Lewis for a 2 year accidental damage cover?

And, Apple holds a £49 excess charge per claim, whereas John Lewis is £0 excess.

I plan to get Apple Care for an upcoming watch purchase. I see you can pay $79 for 2 years or $3.99 monthly. Does the monthly plan also end in 24 months or can it be extended if you just keep paying? Is there an advantage to get one over the other? Paying $4 x 24 months equals $96. Am I missing something here?

You can’t extend it beyond two years I believe.

Advantage to the monthly is if you upgrade your watch in a year you can cancel the subscription online or from an app, with the paid in full you have to contact customer support and request a prorated refund.

Additionally if paid in full your refund is less any service is provided. So if you used it, you would likely would see no refund.

Otherwise if you plan to keep the watch for the full two years, the paid in full is the better option
