Hello I just sold my iPhone 5S on eBay and it has 1 year of apple care plus remaining. Does the Apple Care follow the iPhone so that the new user has the remaining one year? I'm not looking to keep it but just want to make sure I don't have to do anything else.

    Thanks for any insight.

Welcome, it's a good selling point to get more money for the phone as well.

You can call apple and tell them you want to cancel and they will refund you a prorated amount.

You can also call Apple and get the balance transferred to the new owner.

That would be a very douchy move. Probably illegal too.

I think he meant you can do that if you don't advertise your phone on eBay with Apple care +.

Can the remaining time be transferred to another device? I plan on upgrading every year.

Apple Care Plus - Sold my iPhone 5S

Accurately you need to complete some Apple paperwork to transfer AppleCare Plus to the new owner.

    eBay states this http://www.ebay.com/gds/AppleCare-Transfer-Procedures-/10000000009819939/g.html

I did that for an eBay buyer. In practice a store may not care, but it could be a problem.

You can only transfer it once. So an eBay buyer may not want that done if they are shipping/ reselling overseas.

See section 10 of Apple's T&A here for the official statement. https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/appforiphonenaen.html

Where are you pulling this from? It's in the agreement you acknowledged when you purchased AppleCare. I've done it several times.

EDIT: Oh, if it was advertised as such. Tracking.

What number did you call to get the refund?

Yeah, I'm through "giving" my AppleCare away to other people. As soon as I sell the phone, I get a refund with what is left on the AppleCare. It just seems like it doesn't really help with the sale especially when the phone will end up overseas.

I agree 100% and I think that I have seen your name before on a certain DBS site

No they usually refund then you have to purchase the new plan for the new device at full price. Just have to wait a bit in the refund. No biggie though.

    I got a refund for $49.70. Try calling 1-800-275-2273.

I just called apple and they said o they do not offer refunds on applecare. It stays with the device, and can't even be transferred to another owner.

It didn't really help me with the sale. I ended up lowering my price by $50 and refunding the AppleCare and it sold within a day. It had been up on swappa and Craigslist for two weeks with the AppleCare and all I got were people wanting to offer me amounts that were way too low for a 5s (like $200-$275 for a 32gb).

That's odd. I've always been able to get a prorated refund on all my devices. Just not this time as I skipped a cycle and it was used up.

None of that is true whatsoever. It can be transferred (it says so on Apple's site). And I know they give refunds because I just got one. But you have to speak to AppleCare not Apple's general customer service.

And you called Apple for this or do you call the vendor you purchased Apple Care from? If I purchased Apple Care from Spirnt, would I call Sprint or Apple?
