iPhone XS Max Apple care plus transfer

Hi guys I am purchasing a used xsmax with apple care plus from a friend . I was wondering if I need to contact apple to transfer the apple care to me. Or do they just use the imei of the device

See link for the process. I would personally make sure the contract was in my name. Your friend needs to transfer the plan over to you.

I bought an XS on eBay for a friend. She has discovered it still is covered by apple care on monthly plan and someone keeps paying for it monthly. Would she be covered if she needed it

I used express replacement about a month ago on my iPhone x. They verified my name and address as part of the process. Per my post above, I think you should get the contract transferred into your name when buying an iPhone that still has applecare coverage.
