Apple Care vs Asurion

I got my iPhone X on launch day but made the biggest mistake of not paying attention that it was going to be shipped to my Verizon store and long story short they forced me to buy insurance. (They told me I couldn't leave the store without it.) What are your guy's opinions on Asurion? I had no plans on getting insurance but I later gravitated towards Apple Care. Since they provided absolutely zero information on the insurance I was getting, I'm completely in the dark. Please share your experience if you've had both.

My understanding is if anything were to happen to your X (cracked screen etc), you'd have to file a claim through Asurion. AppleCare provides service for the device directly via an Apple store. Asurion also covers loss/theft but AC doesn't.
