I have never had insurance for my phone, though I want to get it with my new Pro Max. I preordered this morning and did not see an option for Apple Care, just the Verizon insurance option.

1. Can I get Apple Care after my phone arrives?
2. Anyone know pros/cons between Apple Care and Verizon insurance?

yes! you have 90 days to buy apple care. For the max, I would get apple care. You buy it through the settings app. There's a link there to buy apple care via subscription basis. I don't know how Verizon coverage works so I can't help there.
 
Yes thank you for the reply. My case is that I already have Verizon care and was wondering if I should cancel Verizon care and go with apple care. Not really sure of the differences and I just have a feeling that apple care is better. The plans are relatively the same price.
 
I am with Verizon and chose monthly AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for $13.49. Verizon’s best insurance option monthly is $17 (increasing to $19 in July 2021) a month. The only difference with Verizon is they have more options for insurance plans, so $29 for cracked screens, Call Filter Plus, deductible depending on the phone model (which will also increase, and you will get a replacement device that can either be refurbished or new (Apple have the best refurbished devices).

I've used both coverages for my work and personal iPhone. I will always go AppleCare route for my personal use and for all iDevices I buy for our company.

Some pros and cons of both:

AppleCare
Pros
  • Amazing service.
  • Apple Care for the most part knows their stuff. If not, they'll get someone who does.
  • Express replacement is a life saver. Essentially, Apple puts a hold on your card for the full price of the device, sends the new device and releases the hold once the old device is received.
  • Monthly plan is great, I love buying the full term plan for company purchases.
  • I go case-free with Apple Care, so the cost of Apple Care I justify as not having to buy a phone case.
Cons
  • It is insurance, so it could be a pricey expense or a gamble I refer it to if it's unused.
  • Could have some glitches here and there, but phone support will get it right.

Verizon Insurance
Pros
  • Good delivery process of replacing phone. Ex: I had a GM who broke his iPhone, Verizon shipped a new phone and box to receive the old phone as a courtesy service. Comparable to Apple's express replacement, but is only on a case by case basis.
Cons
  • Hidden costs.
  • Poor service, Verizon deals with dozens of different brands of devices. They won't know everything for support or the best outcome unless you get an Apple geek.
  • Monthly cost option only (as far as I know since 2020, for my work I like avoiding monthly costs so it's less paperwork :p this can be a pro though depending on how you view the costs.

In the end, I would urge you to consider AppleCare. I've had less stress when dealing with support claims vs any of our company cell carriers.

If you are eligible for AppleCare I would recommend it. If not, do not cancel! Make sure to secure the AppleCare before cancelling with the provider, just in case anything goofy happens :p

Iirc, it's 60 days, not 90.
 
I had a similar dilemma earlier in the week, but in the UK.

It seems that AppleCare+ has the worst coverage, but the best service (does not cover theft/loss). The highly rated insurers all too 3 to 5 days to replace your device.

The price worked out pretty much the same, so I went with AppleCare+, because I don't want to be without my iPhone for 3 days!
