On the fence about Apple Care…I’ve had iPhones for many years now (started with a iPhone 4 to iPhone 6 to 8 Plus to 12PM and now 16PM). Never had Apple Care before and was just fine. I’m very careful and take care of my phones that I spend ($1000+) on haha. Apple Silicone case and screen protector on all the time. Still trying to decide about getting Apple Care for my 16PM…yes for the peace of mind or save the money?

Personal choice. I buy it for my iPhones, other people don’t. I won’t try to convince you or tell you either choice is right or wrong - that’s a decision each person has to make.

I get it. I typically finance my phones over two years so I know if something happens I’m covered. I also don’t use a case or screen protector.

16 PM, Express replacement 4 times ( Touch issue ) under Apple care & paid $0, In standard warranty Apple may have kept mobile for repair, Under Express replacement new phone delivered to my office, after setting it up, retuned my old phone, peace of mind,
I change my iPhone every year & I take AC+ on day one, when I move to new phone, I call Apple to refund my existing AC+ & they do this refund on Pro Rata basis, so I add little more amount for AC+ for newer device, so I don't consider AC+ only for the accidents but as a warranty extension with add on facility

I also have a 16 pm and I took out monthly ac+ since I am not using a case. I haven’t dropped it yet, but it is nice knowing that if I do I am covered. Since you are using a case, you may be fine without it. Or you can pay for it monthly until you feel comfortable with the phone as a middle-ground option.

I buy it just for peace of mind, at full price. Then if I plan to sell or trade in the iPhone, the following year, I'll just cancel AppleCare+ and get a prorated refund.

So if I buy Apple Care for 2 years upfront and would decide to upgrade next year, I can get refunded the remaining cost?

Had it for 8 plus, XS, 12 mini and now 14 PM. I use my iphone caseless most of the time and it’s a good peace of mind to have it.

This is my thoughts also. I use my iPhone’s caseless, so having AC+ for the peace of mind is good enough for me. Especially having two young kids at home.

I went years without using it.

broke my 15 3 times last year. Have the apple silicon case Once fell out and hit the pavement, front glass cracked. Guess a tiny glass shard from that got in the case, mild drop 2 weeks later, and the back glass shattered. Dropped it again a couple months later and broke the front glass again.

I've had an iPhone since the first one (not at launch though), and might have broken it one other time.

Thanks for the help. I have one more day to decide before the 60 days expires. What are the other perks of Apple Care besides screen repairs?

Since iPhone 14, Apple can replace the back glass independently. This has a $29 deductible like the screen.
Other damage escalates to a replacement for the $99 deductible.
The regular warranty aspects apply with the extension to two years, like a battery replacement under 80% for free.
Apple also provides express device replacement, overnighting a new phone your way if necessary.
AC+ extends coverage to some accessories as well. For example, a case bought with your iPhone would be extended to two years, rather than the one year limited warranty.

These are the benefits I'm aware of stateside, terms may be different in your region. I've never used AC+ Theft & Loss.

Oh cool thanks! So I bought an Apple Silicone case with my iPhone same day. This would be extended to a 2 year warranty as well?

I have AC+, that also covers theft. I travel a lot, and had some one throw my bin with phone and a laptop rushing for their flight. MBP had screen damage, and iPhone survived. But I always buy AC+ on all my devices, I just don’t trust the others during my frequent travels. It’s peace of mind for me.

The question is, wasn’t your mind at peace all these years, or why has it suddenly lost its calm? Continue saving the money I say. You probably already saved so much that you could buy another iPhone from it.

Think of AppleCare like an insurance policy. You’re paying for Apple to assume the risk of anything happening to your iPhone. It’s like insurance on your car. Before paying someone to assume risk you want to consider what are you risking and the chances of that happening?

When was the last time you damaged or lost (if you get stolen/ lost protection) your iPhone? This question assesses the chance of the risk. If it hasn’t happened in a decade, then the chances are probably likely very small. If you can think of multiple times where you had to replace a screen or had problems then the chances are higher.

What is the worst possible outcome of this risk? For a 16 Pro Max maybe $1200 - $1600 in the USA depending on storage capacity. Can you pay for that out of pocket without any problems? Another reason why people get insurance for example car insurance is extreme catastrophic loss. You can be out $150,000 or more in a car crash. Most people can’t pay that. Not everyone can budget an iPhone out of what’s in their bank account. If you’re on a tight budget insurance can save you. If you have savings, then you can assume that risk without worry.

I get AppleCare because my history with dropping iPhones is not great. I’ve used AppleCare to replace an iPhone or screen at least a half a dozen times in the past ten years.

I’m about to pull the trigger…if I pay the full 199 outright, is it true Apple will give me a prorated refund of the remaining time if I cancel early? Seems more advantageous than paying monthly 9.99?

It sure where you live, but here in the US, I’ve always received a prorated refund from the unused portion of the AppleCare+ that I purchased. Recently, Apple emailed me about a refund on AppleCare+ from my 14PM that I traded in a year ago.

Cool. I’m in the US so it should be fine. It took them a year to refund you haha?
