Hello, today I had a small brainwave. What if we could back up our OS X cds into lookalikes. With access to a commercial CD printer I could make copies of a CD and print a sticker on it. Now, I'm on the hunt to amass a small collection of CD-printing ready images. I made a server cd, now I want a Tiger CD. So I came here to find people who could scan (or find pics) and make a thread of useful CD images. First, I have a OS X Server 1.2v3 image that I made from multiple ones on the web.

I had to remake some text/icons to make it look better. For instance, I believe the instructions font is Helvetica Bold Size 11 (eyoungren, maybe you have some insight) and the smaller version text is Helvetica Bold Size 8.
Here is an original:

I also remade the Mac with Finder icon if anyone wants/needs it:

I will go ahead and make a selfish needy want list:
* Tiger Retail 4-CD set images. <- Courtesy of ctmpkmlec4
* Tiger 'textured' DVD image

I'd really like to make more, but I do not want to abuse the privilege of using the printer.

None of these images could be made without the help of the people on this forum. Thanks! If you want any more made, let me know!

Here is a public beta CD image.
A couple of things to point out from someone who owns a real Public Beta CD. Unlike later versions, the "X" is slightly different, and the ring toward the center is absent. Also, the font used for the serial number looks to be wrong, it should be Helvetica.

Otherwise, nice job :)

Maybe it's because I have not had enough coffee yet this morning, but I'm not following on this thread.

Your point is custom images for install CD/DVDs? Why? Don't these disks already have custom images? Or is the point to remake them?

To answer a previous question though, Apple generally does use Helvetica for most of it's sans-serif type.

Pro tip: Scan the part of the image with the type that is questionable to you at 100%. Using that scan as a template, in whatever app you are using start typing the exact wording. Color it different than the color of the template type. Then, using the tools size the type (and change the font) so that it matches up as close as you can get it to the template type underneath.

When you're done, delete (or hide) the template, recolor the type the color it should be and you have what you need in the exact (or closest to exact) form as you can get.

I can fix the font. I thought it was Lucida Grande. I do not have an X that is suitable. I can try to edit out the middle, but then I lose part of the X.

I don't own any official CDs like the public beta, or the server, or tiger. The public beta and the server isos are on public servers, and I have a legit copy of Tiger from work. I want to make duplicates to make official looking CDs just because it's better than using a sharpie to notate disks :).

Thanks for the template idea!

OH! I get you now.

OK, carry on!

Does this look better?

The Mac logo should have a white background with a black border, and don't forget to change the year to 2000 ;) Otherwise, looks good!
Never mind, I got it sorted.
