It's simple fear of open and honest competition. Apple knows that their watch is grossly overpriced compared to competing products and so cannot allow customers to easily compare functionality and prices.

fear of open and honest competition? Apple is in no way obligated to sell competing products in their stores.

I take it you want microsoft stores to start selling ipads too?

Should have gone to the" Previously owned" section.

The sales of which benefit primarily the dealership itself, not the manufacturer.

Which is why I'm sure independent retailers of Apple products will continue to stock the Jawbone UP and Nike Fuelband, if they were already doing so.

My reply to you would be similar to the ones you've already received, so I'll just address your next post.

How is it not the same thing? You seem to think that a company that is confident in their products will sell competing products beside their own.

I just decided Porsche dealers should showoff the new Lexus and new Ferraris in the front of their showrooms and leave the Porsche in the back lot. They should also finance them. Why not? (sic)... Yes, it is sarcasm :).

Fitness bracelets

Even though I will get the Watch , I'm not planning to stop wearing the Jawbone up 24 , is got a pretty complete app that helps a lot figure it out what you eat , and also the sleep tracking feature is pretty decent. I've never wore a watch while sleeping , besides it needs to be charged , so I don't see here a real competitor with the Apple Watch , I also have worn the Nike Fuel band , but did not like it due to being to bulky and did not track your sleep . I see the watch covering other areas where these products are useful for other reasons. So I think they can peacefully coexist .;)

There really isn't any argument to be had here. It's their stores, they can sell whatever they wish.

They wouldn't sell an Android phone or tablet in their stores, why would they sell Watch/fitness competition?

Some of these products, especially the sub-$100 stuff, don't even compete directly with the Apple Watch. They're meant for fitness tracking only and not really considered smart watches or jewelry.

The fact that Apple is pulling even that stuff is kind of petty.

Right. I also don't understand why they don't offer Samsung phones in the Apple Store. Must be a fear of competition...

I went to the Ford dealer and they had no Toyotas in the showroom. I don't get it.

I think it's a good analogy. Apple isn't selling a competing brand and Ford isn't selling competing brands.

Yeah, you're right. They should also sell Samsung phones and Windows PCs.

What you all fail to realize is that before today, Apple was perfectly happy with selling products such as the Jawbone UP Move and Wahoo TICKR X Heart Rate Monitor in their store. The only reason why they're suddenly pulling these items is because they're afraid they'll look better to customers than Apple Watch, because they're a lot cheaper.

It's exactly the same thing. It's an APPLE store.

They were an Apple Store yesterday and were happy selling these products. And the day before, and the day before, and the day before, etc.

The fact that they're pulling them NOW in the face of some harsh criticism of the pricing of their new product says a lot about their confidence levels.

The point is, Apple should feel secure that their product is the absolute best.

The fact that they're removing any other product from their store that might compete says quite a lot about their confidence in their new product.

Yes, it says they expect to sell so few of the other products in the future, they're not worth the shelf space.

A much more logical explanation is that Apple needs space in the store to sell and demonstrate the watch, along with various accessories. Removing products that duplicate part of the Apple Watch's functionality makes far more sense than removing anything else.

The watch doesn't even come out for a month.

The excuse that they need more room, or expect to sell less of another product, would only make sense if they did this closer to release date.

They're concerned. It's totally obvious.

So you have three friends who are purchasing a $10,000 watch that will become obsolete in two years?

Doesn't sound like they make the best purchasing decisions.

Actually the edition is the only one that might raise in value over the years as gold value goes up...

It doesn't work that way. Tech products don't raise in value over the years, they decline in value.

Doesn't matter what it's made of. In 2-3 years, that 1st gen gold Apple Watch will be obsolete in Apple's eyes and will be worth a mere fraction of $10,000.

They're afraid.

What makes you think a month is too soon? Why can't they do something like this now in anticipation of moving other devices around to make a larger space for the Apple Watch?

And I'd really like to know where you're pulling this whole "Apple is afraid" thing from. Is that just a convenient way of saying you don't like the Apple Watch?

We all realize it. What you fail to realize is that yesterday they weren't competitive products and today they are. And today they'd be downright stupid to continue carrying them. No, sorry, not merely downright stupid. Mind-bogglingly stupid beyond belief. Regardless of the price of the Apple watch.

Mind-bogglingly stupid. I can't stress that enough.

It says a lot more about people knee jerk reactions, don't you think? ;) just saying.

You don't think it's odd that they started pulling these products two days after the reveal?

Two days of harsh criticism all over the Internet about Apple Watch, mostly regarding its pricing.

It's not hard to read between the lines here.

Actually, they started becoming competitive products on Tuesday after the reveal. But Apple took two days to decide to remove the products. Two days of getting ripped on in the media and on tech sites.

This isn't difficult to decipher.

You're both missing the point. They aren't pulling them to quash the competition, their pulling them so they have space to showcase their brand new product line. They'll continue to sell other companies' products that complement their own product lines, but they now have their own product line to promote.

How amusing since they still sell those in their website. Your reactions are typical :apple:hater :D

There's that space excuse again.

The watch doesn't come out until April 10. It doesn't take a month to make space in a retail store.

And removing 2-3 tiny products from their shelves won't provide them with that much more space anyway.

This is a reactionary move because of the lukewarm media reception. They don't want their customers to know that there are other options available to them.

Quite the contrary, you're reading way too much into this. You think Apple didn't expect criticism regarding the price? As if anyone in Cupertino is appalled that the Edition is well outside of the price ranges for people like you and I? Gruber and few others correctly predicted both the astronomical price of some of the higher-end options, and the backlash that would follow.

So no, I don't think the timing of them pulling these devices is odd at all.
