They used a photo of the 17lb (that's 10,000kg, I believe) Mac Portable! Loved that machine. I'm feeling all the nostalgia right now....

RTÉ the National Broadcaster has an article on this ... "Apple boss (in Ireland) upbeat about Irish growth as Cork plant turns 40" - https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/1117/1178477-apple-cork-cathy-kearney/

Interesting 27 min interview by RTÉ (Paschal Sheehy) at the end of the article of the Vice President of European Operations, Cathy Kearney - gives a very interesting insight into Apple Cork and a great idea of the work the 6,000+ staff are up to.

- An Apple Store in Dublin and in Cork would be great for Apple users here! Please!

In the late 80's and early 90's I worked for Apple Europe out of their Paris headquarters. Part of my job was connecting with the various countries and GMs and that included the Cork factory. Doing business around Cork while wearing some Apple swag jacket was like having a free pass to everything. The Cork people were so grateful to Apple that I literally couldn't buy a lunch or a pint, or even a taxi ride. My money was no good there.

In addition to the Apple factory, there was a very small (5-6 people) sales management team in Dublin run by a fine gentleman named Bob Taylor, who possessed the driest wit and one of the finest golf swings I've ever witnessed. At a general manager meeting one year the concept of "mañana" (tomorrow but really an unspecified time in the future) was broached by the Spanish GM who asked Bob if there was any similar concept in Ireland or the Gaelic language. Bob replied, "Well there is Sergio but nothing that connotes the same sense of urgency." RIP Bob. I miss Ireland.
