Apple has announced that it will be opening an all-new store at the Grand Front shopping complex in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday, July 26.

To celebrate the occasion, Apple has shared a wallpaper for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

This will be Apple's first store in Umeda, a busy mixed-use district of Osaka with two major train stations, shops, restaurants, and more.

Apple has another store in Osaka, in the Shinsaibashi district.

Why is there excitement about a new retail store opening?

I can never figure this out.
Personally I'm in upstate NY and my nearest Apple store is between 1.5-2 hour drive away.

Which is ... whatever ... but you definitely get a whole different level of service in those stores compared with anywhere else (Best Buy, Verizon, etc.).

Apple enthusiasts that live in the area and/or are traveling to the area will benefit from the store being a short distance to purchase products they like. And not everyone likes deliveries, some people like the in-store experience and doing in-store pickup. Some simply like to look at the new products. You’re questioning something that’s not too big of a deal.

Oh, thank GOODNESS. Finally!! The Shinsaibashi one, especially getting repair service, is simply untenable. I dread going in there, even with an appointment. Too many customers & not enough space…

I’m reeeeally hoping this will do something to relieve a bit of the pressure. Maybe? Hopefully! 😆

Been there to get a PowerBook fixed (under warranty), way back in 2003.

The new store is a few miles north of that, on the north side of the large JR Umeda station, not far from Yodobashi Camera. A great deal of redevelopment has been going on the past couple of decades in this older Osaka area.

How I miss the Japanese stores. They still know how to do retail, and in the US few stores do (Apple being an exception.)

Apple: We have that dynamic wallpaper function corresponding with bright-dark-mode changes, but whenever we release a wallpaper, we just share a static png

I'm planning a Sushi and Sake launch party in San Diego on July 26th if anyone wants to come along. We'll have a live video feed from the store as customers embrace this exciting new shopping experience for the first time. And a DJ banging out some J-Pop classics.

Entry is only available when you are accompanied by an iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max.

They should not have let the kindergartners loose with crayons! That art is terrible.

What do you want to bet that the art was AI generated.
Doubt it. I tried to decipher if it was some sort of Kanji woven in there, and failing that. I appreciate them trying to do something different with the Apple logo. It's artistic--it doesn't have to meet with general approval.

Much like these posts, it one of those "little note nor long remember" things.

You'll be late. Saturday July 26 in Japan will be Friday July 25 in San Diego. Better reschedule that DJ.
