Apple today announced that it will soon be opening a new retail store at Forrest Place, a pedestrianized area in the heart of Perth, Australia.

The store will be in a historic building originally built for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, at the corner of Forrest Place and Murray Street. Apple is taking over a space that was previously occupied by Australian swimwear retailer City Beach.

Apple already has a store in central Perth on nearby Hay Street. That location, opened in 2010, will be permanently closing on Wednesday, June 25, and the newer and larger Forrest Place store will be holding its grand opening on Friday, June 27 at 9 a.m. local time.

"Prepare to discover a flourishing hub of creativity, as we open the door to a new era of growth for Perth and for you," says Apple, on the store's page.

To celebrate the upcoming store opening, Apple has shared a special floral-themed wallpaper. It is available to download on the store page for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple has also spotlighted content from Western Australian-based artists and storytellers across the Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Books apps.

Apple has done a great job of restoring historic buildings and turning them into beautiful Apple Stores throughout the past 15 years - most recently a historic theater in Los Angeles:

Apple has also previously turned other historic banks into new Apple Stores in the past - including the one on NYC’s Upper East Side:

So that's two stores in the Perth CBD now?

What's happening to the old one?

edit:
ah, it is closing.

the new store is literally a block or so away from the existing one!

Looks like it is right next to the Perth underground train station exit. Nice.

Build one in melbourne too please. In fact the old commonwealth bank building along Bourke street is now vacant; if old commonwealth bank buildings are your thing.
They were trying to build a shopping complex in Federation Square that would include an Apple Store, but lost interest in a Melbourne Apple Store when public opposition stopped them taking over public space.

The exterior looks great.

I'm sure the interior is the usual Apple Store awfulness.

Apple Stores are less pleasant places to be than Walmart, and that's saying something.

Given the crime rate in Melbourne, I would advise against Apple opening up a street front store here. Armed guards might prevent daytime robberies but many stores are getting ram-raided after hours.

Coming soon - just be sure that they always have the latest PoliceOS.

Unlikely with this store, as this is in a 'outdoor' pedestrian mall, and have retractable security bollards at points of entry.

Sadly they screwed this up. There is a clickable link for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, and the Mac link is the same as the iPad link. 😳

Update: After a few emails back and through, the Mac version is available.
