It is weird isn't it. I mean I hate Drake but i'm able to tell a track is him (they sound the same for a start) so why are other people not able to easily identify this and are need to Shazam it?!
It is surprisingly easy to lose track of current pop music once you stop using traditional radio and tv. I know Drake is a musician, but I am not aware of what music he makes (I may of course have heard a song somewhere, like in a shop, but without knowing it was him). Same with Taylor Swift and other famous names. Not saying this to be hoity-toity - until the early 2010s I regularly consumed traditional media and had a decent idea of who makes what, even when it was not to my taste at all. Streaming changed that a lot for me, for better or worse.

I only recognized a couple of titles/artists, which I have zero shame. And, I would not say the song is the best of the associated artist. Lastly, yes, the most popular (or “radio hits” as they were called in my day) are typically/overall bad to meh. Essentially, radio hits were a catchy/easy introduction to a new album.
If you want high quality it's always best to avoid the masses.

How does Shazam work as well as it does and yet Siri has trouble "calling my wife at home."?

("Sorry I don't have a number for your wife at home.")
("Sorry I don't know who your wife is.")
("Hmm Sorry, I'm having problems. Please try again in a few moments.")
Well Shazam isn’t interpreting language it is just matching a sample against a database. I‘ve never used it but I assume if someone just starts singing “Welcome to the Jungle” into it that it doesn’t return the Guns N Roses original version.

I used it about twice.

Keeps making me think of Shazzan

This was and essentially still is the best app of all time. I remember the iPhone TV commercial that featured it back in the day—unreal. If I had to choose one app, it would be this.

I think this is just the most queried song, not indicative of the highest quality, so you may be right in that the couple you recognized are not the best from those artists.

I Shazam songs I already know just to add to my playlist or if a new song, I haven’t heard it and I’m curious but it doesn’t indicate I love the tune.

Yep.

You do have a valid point/reminder, most quarried is not necessarily trending. However, they are probably songs that were popular at some point.

I too primarily use apps/services such as Shazam to identify music I have not heard previously and seem intriguing. Granted, my use is typically for songs in movies, video games, or stores, so, again, most likely popular at some point in time.

The stuff I tend to Shazam only has a 50% chance of even being in the database.
Because they want to know the song title. He’s featured on a lot songs too.
