Apple CEO Tim Cook and Brad Pitt surprised fans at the company's Fifth Avenue flagship store over the weekend to promote the upcoming Apple Original Film "F1 The Movie."

The unexpected appearance followed a packed panel discussion featuring "Severance" cast members Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, and Britt Lower to chat about their work on the hit Apple TV+ show.

Pitt greeted the crowd and said he was excited for fans to see the movie, calling the high-octane thriller the "most visceral racing film ever made." Meanwhile, Cook was keen to tout the film's authenticity and spoke about how Apple's iPhone camera technology used to capture the immersive in-car footage. "It was important for us to be authentic to the sport and really capture that immersive feeling of being in the car," Cook told attendees.

Apple's engineering team developed a custom camera module using iPhone components specifically for mounting on Formula 1 cars during actual races. The module resembles a standard broadcast camera but contains an iPhone sensor and A-series chip. It was designed to withstand extreme speeds and conditions while capturing footage in Apple's ProRes format. Wired has an in-depth look at the engineering challenges behind the approach that's well worth a read.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer alongside F1 legend Lewis Hamilton, the film stars Pitt as a veteran driver attempting a classic comeback. "F1 The Movie" opens globally in theaters and IMAX on June 27. Apple has also released a unique haptic trailer over on the TV app that uses the iPhone's Taptic Engine to create vibrations that sync with the on-screen action – be sure to give it a watch.

This I gotta see. California raised in a car, tripped in a car, depended on a car, d**n near died in a car. I am qualified LOL.

Ridiculous amount of $$$ and hype in the filming and promotion of this movie.

The plot synopsis reads like a cliché and race-wise, I doubt there’ll be anything we haven’t seen done better and before from Rush and Cars 2. Of course, “Senna” will always be the ultimate F1 watch.
Apple will probably be in the hunt for the F1 rights next year….
lol you’re comparing a film you have yet to see to an animated movie.

Trailer seems nice. Planning to watch this one on IMAX instead of waiting for the TV+ release.

Wouldn’t surprise me given Cook’s obsession with celebrity.

Maybe but having seen the trailer, I feel I’ve seen the entire movie. As I said, clichéd AF.

Oh and don’t disrespect Cars 2, my kids were obsessed with it, and as an entertaining standalone spy thriller with F1-esque backdrop, it has no peers 😅

No thanks. I’ve read the divorce docs. Brad Pitt’s a hard pass

It would be amazing if Apple got the rights. I’ll circle back and let you know how the film is in a few few days.

Glad the usual suspect in the very front of the photo is holding an android phone like an idiot.

Being a lifelong F1 fan, I probably won't watch it as it'll annoy me how inaccurate it is.
Not to mention the “50-something NASCAR driver schooling arrogant rookie and ripping up F1 in an Alpine-like team” plot.
I'm usually pretty relaxed with movies, as they have to fit a storyline into a simple time box, but this is particularly bad. And particularly off brand for Apple. To lift the embargo around Juneteenth is also dumb AF.

Plot is basically old poor white guy with chip on his shoulder about not getting a fair shake back in the 70s needs to teach young rich black man manners and how to do his job properly (by pretty much cheating). Then, when young black man is about to win his first big race, he realizes he needs to wait his turn and let the old white guy win so white man can get the chick. Surprisingly, with something as uninspired as this plot and without any character development, there is still an inexplicable plot hole in a scene that could have been cut.

Plus, the thing is about an hour longer than is reasonable. The only truly interesting cinematography is at the end. That should be the trailer and then none of us have to wade through this tired stuff. They should have just commissioned a documentary that lets you feel like you're an F1 driver because it is pretty wild.

I’m confused, did you see the film yet?
