It’s fitting. Steve Jobs wanted Apple’s products to be for the common man, although he failed at it due to higher prices than the rest of the industry. But at least he had those good intentions. Tim Cook, on the other hand, wants to make Apple an exclusive brand (like Burberry, which is why he hired Angela Arhends) and raised prices thus raising the barrier to entry and excluding the common man. So it’s fitting that Cook is attending that exclusive event since his goal is to turn Apple into the computer equivalent of an exclusive nightclub like Studio 54.

Why you you think Apple is expensive? Maybe initially but Apple devices last forever and save money in the long run.

I've had my white MacBook for 6 years, my MacBook Pro for 8. My wife's HP laptops usually last for two to three years before they become unusable. I still use my 4th gen iPod Nano which is like 14 years old! I still use the 13 years old Magic Mouse. My wife killed countless mouses by now. I still use my iPad mini 3 which is 8 years old and still works far better that the Samsung tablets I got from work and which we get swapped out every two years because they become slow and unusable.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is on the guest list for this year's Sun Valley Conference, which begins Wednesday in the resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho, according to Deadline. Known as "summer camp for billionaires," the conference allows tech and media moguls to negotiate deals between leisure activities like golfing and whitewater rafting.

Cook has attended the retreat several times over the years, often alongside Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, but it has yet to be confirmed if he will be present this year. Apple's negotiations have typically been kept under wraps, but the conference provides the company with an opportunity to secure media deals for services like Apple TV+.

Other tech CEOs invited this year include Tesla's Elon Musk, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon's Andy Jassy, and Alphabet's Sundar Pichai, the report claims.

Hosted by investment bank Allen & Company, the conference has served as a catalyst for some major deals in the media industry, ranging from Disney acquiring ABC in 1995 to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' purchasing The Washington Post in 2013. This year's event reportedly takes place from July 5 through July 9, with private discussions to begin July 6.

So Steve Jobs and Tim Cook had different intentions but the same result, is what you are saying. As the saying goes, the only thing that counts is the scorecard.

Some of the world’s biggest criminal vulture capitalists attend this event.

If you lost money to ponzi schemes in the last year these people took your money and they are laughing at you and your debts and your hungry kids.

They won’t even stop there. They want to take even more from you.

I will be there trying to convince Tim to bring back Aperture, HyperCard, and xServe.
I would love to see Apple bring back Aperture. Not because I want to use it myself. I just want Apple to stop endorsing Adobe. Because Adobe makes terrible products that cost you an arm and a leg at regular intervals.

Agree. Steve Jobs did try. Apple prices were high, of course, especially on first gens. But then on subsequent releases, there were efforts to bring prices to moderate levels.

But Tim Cook operated differently. Only going upwards, and instead of innovating for the entry level, he just used old designs and components to segregate the haves and the have nots.

Eg. when introducing the first glass/aluminum iMac, Jobs set the base config with 20", an increase in size vs the previous 17". Giving more value for the same price. Then there are certain price points that Jobs were adamant in maintaining, eg $499 for flagship base config iPads. And let's not forget how Apple tackled the iPod market, with clear innovations at every segment (regular iPod, mini/nano, shuffle).

Today's Apple is clearly different, eg. still selling Apple Watch S3 that won't be updated ever, pushing every new models at higher price point than previous, etc. In tackling the lower segments, the current Apple is so lazy that they just reused old designs (iPhone SE, base iPad) instead of innovating.
the M1 MacBook air was the best deal in town for any 7 core or above laptop, cheap and faster than all the intel offerings. iPhones spanning back 6 years are still getting updates so I really don't know what you're comparing their products to. Sure they won't go down to horrible injected plastic items that are half put together.

Are you sure sj didn’t ever attend? Not convinced. Anyway. Apple now is the exact Apple he envisaged- like it or not. He wanted Apple machines to be appliances. He wanted Apple to be closed. He wanted Apple to be what it is now. From his perspective- Apple has not changed.

Yes. Another case in your point: The new M2 MacBookPro. And what exactly is the meaning of „Pro“ in Apple language these days??

Imagine something very bad happened there and all those people were gone. Wouldn't the world be a better place after that? Sadly those companies of course would still exist, but some might get less evil.

Especially Google is a company that simply should vanish. It attacks the privacy and personal data of billions of people every day, even if they actively block cookies and opt out of any data collection. Google still uses browser fingerprinting, WIFI mapping and worse things to identify people. For example each person has a slightly different typing pattern. If you do a Google search, each character is already sent to Google directly after you typed it. That makes it easy for Google to identify you by your typing speed pattern. The problem with Google tracking: They may be forced to give that data to the FBI when requested and a gag order prevents them to ever talk about that.

Things like Google Earth or YouTube may be really useful, but they were not invented by Google. Google just bought them with the money they made with selling or data and now those companies are part of the evil Google empire. That is a very bad developement. Every promising company that gets onto the radar of Google is bought by them.

It just denotes the line that the machine is in. That particular machine is the new base model in the pro lineup. That’s all. Does it need to mean anything else?

Thankfully we aren't heading out there until late in the month. Last thing I need is randos eating up all the Grumpy's and Lefty's burgers.
