I've never known a company who keep using distraction techniques to alter our gaze from the fact they're not actually living up to what they were once famous for (technology world market leaders) and are effectively now product re-sizers. Same stuff. Different dimensions.

Gallingly they continuously congratulate themselves at what a 'great job' they're doing. Will their pride come before a fall?. Do they know something we don't? Less than two months 'til we find out!

Steve fried the Music Labels while changing the world with new appliances.
Tim and Eddy maintain the world while being fried by Amazon

Right... Despite Apple making more money, launching more successful products in brand new categories... "frieds" is that a euphemism for "I don't know what I'm talking about"?.

"Brand new categories" => HomePod, Airpods, Homekit, CarPlay, Maps, Music, iCloud, AppleWatch ...already existed
Ahh !! wait, you might be referencing the 2015 TouchBar Revolution only Apple could do
What an impact it had...pricewise
The only new Cook industry category is the mehpgrade (=marketing enhanced marginal upgrade in same old casing to increase price)

Very true. Sums things up succinctly - The Emperors New Clothes syndrome.

When is Eddy going to get the boot? Pushing Apple into original content is nuts. He’s going to waste a fortune on content no one wants to watch.

I agree with Eddy getting fired, but I do think Apple will need to get into original content. I just don't understand, with the money they have at their disposal, why they can't hire the best writers, directors, and actors and get this going properly. Coupled with a proper :apple: TV streaming service that includes all iTunes shows and movies, they would have a great product.

I was going to say the same.

I'm by no means a daddy kind of person, but, yeah. He's lookin' mighty fine. ;)

#shameless

No offense but thanking an Apple Watch does a disservice to hard working individuals who keep in shape like myself.

Sure my garmin Watch records workouts but it's not responsible for me getting in shape.

That's on me!

I still like Amazon putting themselves in new industries over Apple though. Amazon seems to have their **** together every step of the way. Apple is more of the "me too" company now*

*see Apple TV, Apple Music, HomePod

The original Apple TV was released 10 years ago, and Apple Music is essentially the evolution of iTunes, which dates back even further. These both preceded Amazon and others by years. You may have a point on the HomePod.

No one going to make a comment that they referred to Jared as a Trump? "Jared and Ivanka Trump" implies that his name is Jared Trump. lol, simple mistake but a funny one. It's Jared Kushner.

Do tell what Eddy Cue has brought to the table. I'll wait.

Are you still waiting? Apple's online store, the iTunes Store, and the App Store were all Cue's babies, as well as iLife. Of course we don't know get to see what he does now-- he's a top level executive, and is mostly involved in decision making that we not privy to.

Generally, when people say "I'll wait", it really means "I've made up my mind and I'm not receptive to any counterargument." I'm curious to see if you fit the stereotype.

AND his name is John Scully.

Let me explain.

When Steve left Apple in the 80s, their stock sky-rocketed and profits went through the roof.

John Scully was a great manager, a great operations guy, that's why Steve hired him, just like Tim Cook.

But he had no vision and no feel or passion for products. Which is why Apple after years of milking the Mac and Mac OS almost went bankrupt in the 90s. Because Scully was only focused on making money for stock holders and board members, but had no talent when it came to products and innovation.

Apple needs to keep Tim Cook as CEO he is a good business guy BUT they also need to hire something like a Product Guru, someone who can throw himself into the creative decision process at Apple, someone who ties all the different groups together. Cook is not the guy for that.

In the end that's exactly what Steve Jobs did again when he came back, he hired Cook, he needed someone to run the boring parts of the company and negotiate with suppliers etc, while he can focus on finding and cultivating the seeds for future products within Apples various teams.

That's what Apple post Steve Jobs needs, a Product Guru working under the CEO.

They do. It’s Johnny Ive with his “thinner, lighter” mantra which is great for the consumer line of products but a joke for Pro’s or people like me who aren’t about to drop thousands of dollars on a system I can’t repair or upgrade.

Nice try, but meh. First, Scully's rep was in Marketing, not operations-- he invented the "Pepsi Challenge" and took gobs of market share from Coke. Second, Apple was trying to innovate under Scully-- the Powerbook was introduced, and all the massive research for the Newton was undertaken-- although, Scully did not actually bring the Newton to market, perhaps wisely. Third, Apple if there was a top cause for Apple's troubles in the 1990s, the seeds, at least, were planted by Jobs-- Jobs' obsession with closed architectures, which enabled the disastrous choice of PowerPC over Intel architecture. finally, I'm giving Jobs full credit for the Apple revival when he returned, but that's what it was-- a turnaround of a desperate company. Jobs begged money from Gates to stay alive. And Jobs cut as much as he "innovated". Here's what he cut -- further development of the ground breaking Newton, and licensing of MacOS. Here was his turnaround innovation-- Bondi blue iMacs, which are nothing but packaging (and I loved my iMac). That was entirely marketing based product development, not innovation.

It's not a turnaround situation now, and that's the root of Apple's problem-- the iPhone's enormous success. The iPhone is both the funding source for everything, and exists in a massively competitive sector, which means it sucks up huge amounts of R&D talent just to stay in place. Hard to be innovative elsewhere when you've got all your engineers tied up with that puppy.

These are more likely the reasons...

Quote: "The very first thing Tim did as CEO was convert Apple from a dynamic change-maker into a boring operations company."

Quote: "Executives aren't competing with each other any more. And, Tim's message was loud and clear: "Don't bring me conflict.""

Quote: "The result is the conflict is pushed lower in the organization. The proportion of middle managers has exploded."

Um, Steve Jobs attended this event. Leaders of Google, Amazon, Microsoft attend this event. Are they forgetting about work too?

SJ was never as media hungry as Cook. If this was the only or even one of very few event(s) Cook attended it would be different, but it is now an example of how far off the mark Cook has become.

Not great for consumers. My iPhone 6 bent without ever being sat on. I noticed my 6s was not straight within days of ownership and without ever being subjected to any kind of damage. I treated it like my most valuable possession. Too thin.
