Hmmmm, interesting. Apple create a battery problem for it's users, Apple decide to rectify the problem but they are advised by some analysts not to do it because it will mean iphone owners will not upgrade their phone because now it will last longer due to having the battery changed!!!!

I think Apple need to disclose who these analysts are because to tell Apple not to rectify a problem they caused because it will affect their sales is downright disgraceful.
Like Samsung created a battery problem for its Note 7 users?

That aside it’s a creative narrative that was conjured up as in “Apple created...”. They did that why? To tank their stock?

Your iPhone 6S seems to be the exception - most people are happy with the new batteries.

You threw in some Apple bashing - the top Androids are just as expensive. Only, iPhones last longer, they are not "vintage" in two years.

The battery-throttling fiasco has taught ALL smartphone owners this - replace your battery every year or so to keep it longer, instead of spending $1000 every two years. So many "older" iPhones around now, and a quite a few X-series.
I upgrade when I see a feature/function value that I’m happy with. Usually IMO takes three generations before enough has changed.

Love my iPhone 4s ( and iOS 9.3.5) - still works great! (original battery too)
Yes, my wife and I still like our 4S phones and they work great with iOS 9.3.5. We replaced the batteries while Apple still serviced them only because we intend to keep them as long as possible. Most of the apps that we need on these phones still run on iOS 9.

Technology is rapidly advancing but in cell phones its plateaued. The processors are so fast you don't need to replace a phone every 6 months.

No and yes. iOS and iPhone technology continues to evolve each year. It has not plateaued. But we may not see huge advances like we did in years past. You're right about the processors... they're exceeding what most people can use. But none of this will matter. They'll still complain about "no innovation".

Actually, right now if you have an iPhone 6S or newer with 2 GB of RAM, it's still a very viable phone, even with the current iOS 12.1.3 (soon 12.1.4 to fix the FaceTime issue). As such, the incentive to actually replace the phone is very low.

This gets me to think a bit.
It's great that Apple is making great products.
At the same time, the battery gate issue is very debatable... but now that it's gone, hopefully there's no more of those.

Yeah, probably ever since the 4s, iPhones have been pretty stellar. Still, there were advantages to the 5, 5s, 6 and 6s, even the 7 with its waterproofing. I feel the SE, 6s and the 7 are kind've the bottom benchmark for what people expect from an iPhone. Most people dont need more of a phone than that. And they still work! That's the thing, backn in the days of the 3G, 4, and 4s, your phone literally slowed down and died on you. Not really so these days, aside from major drops or wear and tear, iPhones are pretty damn durable. I remember by 24 months your phone really used to be basically unusable. Now my SE is coming up for the end of its 3rd year of use, and there's no major issues. It's now at the point where iPhones are discontinued before they even reach end of life.

This screw-up is good for one thing - people are woke to the brief life of a battery. Especially, when compared to an iPhone's life.

Now every Vivo feature phone user will be replacing a battery and get mileage out of it before binning it - imagine the $750 lesson an iPhone user got.

Umm yes.

The iPhone is assembled in China and many parts of it are not even from the US. If anything, a strong USD should make it cheaper to produce ?

You have forgotten, anything branded with an Apple logo instantly adds $300 - $400 to its price.

Uh no. my iPhone 6S since 'upgrading' to iOS 12 drains to 50% within 90 minutes, no matter what I do. That's after using the battery replacement program in late 2017.

The reality is the Apple 'moat' is so strong that people are bashing their heads against the wall because they perceive it's too painful to switch to Android.

This is not the tech paradise Steve Jobs promised, or was it hell he promised?

My 6s works fine... I wouldn’t switch to Android. I don’t want google spying on my text messages, phone calls and who knows what else.

In 2016 I bought an iPhone 7 plus 128 GB at release for about €1.000. This was a top of the line model at the time. I fully expected to get 3-4 years of use out of this phone. I'm still happy with my purchase and still feel like I got quite good value for my money. I felt no need at all to upgrade in 2018.

If I would like to buy a comparable top of the line model right now, e.g. an iPhone XS Max 256 GB, I would have to spend about €1.450. For my American friends: that's $1,650 (for comparison's sake: US Apple store price for this phone is $1,249). I don't live in a developing country at all, but €1.450 is still a month's wages for many people over here.

I just can't convince myself that the difference in user experience between an iPhone 7 plus and an XS Max is worth that amount of money. I might upgrade to a 2019 phone, but if Apple keeps their current price levels it's looking a lot like it wil be 2020 or even later.

Tim the only reason why you are apple CEO is because you were the best choice at the moment
Steve didn't have much time left to pick someone, so he had to make a rush decision and he picked you

under normal circumstances I'm sure he would it have picked someone else
but he did the best he could with the little bit of time he had left
can't really blame him

while you are not that bad, you are not that good either
this just proved that you are lost and you have no clue of what's going on

hello Tim, not everybody is rich on planet earth
we have poor people and middle class, also people are getting fed up with the lack of innovation
and the drop in product quality, did I forgot to mentioned the ridiculous price

lower the prices and I'm sure that will increase sales
not only the quality of the device has suffered but also the software quality is a complete disaster

learn how to say, "that is not good enough" "do it better"
but that's what happen when your main focus is to make money
I guess you just had a dose of reality
good for you

that is exactly what you deserved, now you realized that you are not as good as you thought you were

I wonder if there is an Android phone as old as 4s, still being used in the wild?

I would imagine that the on-call duty Galaxy S2 phones at my old company are still around... It's not like Android phones from 2011 magically stopped working; their OS is just frozen in time. 2011... That was Android 4/"Ice Cream Sandwich". Which is still the version developers should target when they want to support 100% of all available Android devices...

I would be surprised if developers support an OS from 2011 on their apps.
But then it is Android, which means most devices run older versions of OS anyway.

So, this is the Italian Apple Store today. You can easily understand the pricing even if it's in Italian. Now, if someone could kindly explain to me what the logic here is compared to the US prices in the opening post... as an example take the Xr for 6s plus exchange case: $499 against €719. it's insulting, basically.

Basically Apple has to produce iPhones that are price competitive from now on, The VP of Marketing at Apple is fond of saying Apple has never been about "Market share". Well if you have never been about Market Share then you should be now, because there isn't any more premium head-room left for the largest company on the planet.

Keep in mind that $499 is about €435, increasing the difference even further: US €435 vs EU €719.

There was a time when a company was proud that their products would last a long time,
in this high consumption capitalist market they expect you to rebuy every 2 years. Can you imagine this, rebuying everything you own every 2 years. Car, Computers, oven, phones, bed, accessories, eyeware...etc...

greed is limit less. If Apple sold just like 1M phones a year and profited $100 on each that is still 100M on phone hardware only. is that so bad? There is no way you will grow into infinite.
