Firearms "should be locked up" sounds like a nanny state liberal mandate who has never set foot outside of an elitist bubble, and has never gotten their hands dirty. These are the sorts of people who think cops should have to leave their weapons at the station before they go home.

Oddly enough, many of the cops I know locked up their weapons at home so their kids couldn't accidentally hurt themselves or others; many on the federal side unloaded and locked their weapons in the building.

We can disagree, but my experience around firearms is that are a tool, not a toy; and need to be treated as such. Even when I had one at home I never kept a round chambered to avoid an accidental discharge. I've known people who accidentally killed themselves hunting because they walked around with a loaded weapon and it discharged, striking them.
So yah, storing weapons safely is a good idea in my book.

Hate to spring it to you, but I am sworn and carry a gun and it is designed and mandated to have a round in the chamber. No safety on the gun either.

Fine. We simply have different experiences.

Who do you know who died in a hunting accident and what were the circumstances?

Friend's father. Veteran, with CIB, who was pulling his loaded shotgun from the trunk when something caught the trigger and it discharged, hitting him in the head and torso killing him.

When we had young children, we locked everything up in full or quick access safes. Kids learned safety and shooting, guns were stored appropriately. Your threat level should dictate. If I were a street cop today who's former clients were regularly released after serving reduced sentences, then I'd be armed at all times.

Exactly. Circumstances dictate the appropriate actions.

Good, I find it hard to believe that out of 300+ million US citizens they can't find the talent they need to succeed. And if so, why is that?

Because Republicans have systematically dismantled / defunded the American education system to the point most of them are now stupid and ignorant. This, of course, fits very nicely into their political strategy (i.e., keep them stupid and ignorant).

Pretty much wrong on all accounts.

Appears that you've never had experience or thought about tactics, have no training, and have never carried or used a weapon. No depth to your understanding.

Wrong on all counts?

I thought that pretty much anyone could buy a gun in the US. Is that not correct? Perhaps you could talk a bit more about the requirements of gun ownership, and the tactical training that people are required by law as a condition of gun ownership.

I also would have thought that a regular person, possibly with children, wouldn't keep loaded and ready use guns lying around the house.

Perhaps you could also talk a bit more about how guns are typically kept around a typical home. For example, would it be typical for parents in a house to have a loaded and ready to use gun by their side of an evening whilst, say, watching television? So that they were, you know, prepared to defend themselves in the event of an intruder into their home?
