And the Pro is an absolute tank of a phone that doesn't compromise on performance or battery life, just like people have been asking for years.

Two full days on one charge is easily doable. I've had my 17 Pro since launch day (132 days) and there are only 77 cycles on the battery...
Launch day Air here, 144 cycles šŸ˜¬šŸ˜‚

Where are the "China is an iPhone sales disaster" bloggers/pundits now? How many stories did we get predicting "apple is doomed".

I agree with your first paragraph; Corrected the second one.
New York Times publishes corrections daily.

As does USA Today.

My local paper (largest in the midwest) does the same too. Very likely most papers do so, at least the large ones.

And yet the articles being run here claimed sales were flat and disappointing. But don't worry, there's no accountability. No admission that they're ever wrong and pushed a false narrative in article after article.

News organizations publish corrections and are forthright when they've been wrong. Blogs have no such journalistic standards.

Yeah, shame on us here at MacRumors for spreading such a false narrative:
The only articles we ran about poor sales related to the iPhone Air, and there is zero indication that was/is incorrect.

By all accounts, it looks like the extreme popularity of the iPhone 17 base model and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models was enough to offset the relative lack of interest in the iPhone Air.

Will you issue a correction to your forum comment? šŸ˜‚

The new iPhones in the 17 series are excellent ones. I have the 17 Pro Max and it is a great iPhone. Love the orange color too. The base 17 is the best base iPhone in many years. Think many will be upgrading. So not at all surprised to see excellent sales for iPhone.

The vast majority of users don't care about aluminum vs. titanium, especially when they put their phone into plastic or leather cases. Going back to aluminum was done for better thermal flow, not price.
Apple is nothing if not cunning, clever and profitable.

They selected and bragged about the titanium build of iPhone 16 Pro line. This from a company with massive resources, brilliant researchers, designers and first class manufacturing.

If aluminum was the better material for thermal efficiency why did they fail to use it instead of titanium?

To argue it wasn't about cost is to overlook the Cupertino companies long history of extracting maximum profits from every product and service they offer. They've built and maintain a world class empire by managing costs every step of the way.

It’s good to be Apple and I'm a satisfied shareholder.

We all know that. How's your apple vision pro selling, cook?
Can you show me where Apple created false expectations for Vision Pro or where they have been dishonest over the last year about the product?

Rather than an indirect swipe at Cook, why would a person inferring failure not just launch their bomb unless they were trying provoke other to lob bombs for them?

I agree with your first paragraph; Corrected the second one.
Just as a point of interest, the comments on these page and other Apple oriented blogs were filled with negative comments and complaints from posters since the build up to the debut and for a good while afterwards.

People on this blog and others that are similar, change their positions faster than a clock ticks off the minutes.

Regular 17 must be selling very well no doubt. Like to know the reason Tim finally, after so many years, put pro motion on the standard modal.
But the recent pro modals color options are awful ... I liked the natural titanium finish on the iPhone 15/16. Did Meta poach all the color design coordinators from the pro division?
Imagine if the standard model gets the telephoto lens and the Pro gains another camera. Sales will explode.

The volume of people who actually know nothing about the topic of their comment is huge. It is far worse when it comes to finance, management issues and remembering that Apple is a shareholder company who ultimate answers to its owners. They talk like they have experience in the positions of the people who are responsible to Cook for the things they endlessly complain about. Although I can't say for sure, it's my guess most of the complainers are not shareholder, but consider themselves to be one.

Would love to see the model breakdown but in my daily life there's 17 pro, 17, and air, in this order.

Most phones I see out in the wilds of the urban jungle are 17 pro / pro max. With 17 it's hard to tell as it looks the same as the 16 but these are super popular always, they're all over the place too.

And I've seen quite a few Airs as well, although I may be biased as they kinda stick out as these super slick pieces of tech... kinda like when you see a lambo... its slower than a model S but the looks kill...

The 17 is the best value base phone in many years in my opinion. I was so close to the sage green myself which I thought was stunning in person.

Ended up with the air which I also love!

I wonder what the yoy sales of the 17 Pro (compared to the 16 pro) will be, now that the 17 has stolen a lot of its features?

i.e. is the addition of a telephoto enough to push people up to the 17 pro?

I've posted on here that I think that the Air is the precursor to what the regular iPhone will be.

But now I'm thinking that it might actually be a rehearsal for replacing the plain old Pro.

That's what happens when you give people what they ask for and when you don't cheap out on the screen. In my household, my partner and I upgraded both of our phones to the 17. Even though only one of them really needed to be upgraded (11). My 13 mini could have waited a little longer. But the value is just too great for this model.

Tim Apple needs to go. Apple have invented no real new products since Steve.
No, ā€œTim Appleā€ doesn’t need to go. He has done a fantastic job for Apple’s owners.

In case you’re missed the news, Steve Jobs has been dead for over a decade and it’s likely you have no idea what he would’ve done. Also, there’s a lot of material out there that indicating Jobs might have lacked the ful range of skills needed to navigate tech markets as they evolved. You also discount the huge role of Cook during the Jobs era and the fact that Cook was hand picked by Jobs to take over.

I don’t understand why some people find it necessary to be so disrespectful and condescending about Tim Cook.

I encourage you to explore Android and Windows if you so unhappy.

Sales of the regular iPhone 17 were clearly through the roof, it was sold out for months and demand was clearly much higher than Apple had anticipated.

The story here is Apple offered a bumper update for the regular model and sales skyrocketed. The impact on the Pro and the Air however we don't know. Apple had clearly tried to push the average spend price of an iPhone up by a) increasing the price of the Pro and b) introducing the Air, and to me this strategy doesn't look to have been successful. But without detailed sales figures which Apple don't provide we won't fully know.

I feel like there’s some trading ā€œPump and dumpā€ shenanigans with Apple. I’ve never known a company to be targeted in exactly the same way all the time. I remember when they nearly halved the share price because of ā€œspeculationā€ that Apple couldn’t innovate etc. it’s crazy how the tech journalists do this.

In a quarter when Apple's US sales actually missed estimates, and when trade war between China and US hit unseen levels, the Chinese rediscovered a heretofore unknown love for the exact same product they shunned for the 3 previous years.

My iPhone 17 Pro Max is, by far, the nicest phone I have ever owned. I just hope the "iFold" phone does it justice.

What happened was that Apple experienced VERY strong sales of the "regular" iPhone 17 model, particularly in China. Those very strong sales offset the poor sales of the iPhone Air.
