Presumably this is being released in March, it would mean that the beta will be available in January or February the latest. I highly doubt it at this point !!!
Gurman said Spring 2026. That puts it in the iOS 26.4 time frame

Just don't ask it to start a second timer, how much is left on the timer or to stop the timer.

Or ask het what month it is.

Or ask het to call Mr. and Mrs. Appleseed. The reply is: "I can only call one person at a time". Which is stupid, since there is only 1 contact with their landline. No mobile, so just one number.

Future of AI is hybrid (Cloud + device)
Its always going to be Cloud + device... but with Apple, they are going to emphasize the device, and that is why Apple Intelligence (includes Siri) is taking a long time to come to fruition. How much Apple wants to build Apple Intelligence into their hardware (like SOCs --therefore on device) is what's making it appear that Apple is having a tough time with AI.

Apple is pursuing a different strategy, which integrates machine intelligence directly into devices.

My reference is this article: https://semiwiki.com/artificial-int...ew-category-poised-to-reignite-the-pc-market/

It may be that Apple has the right idea... taking AI out of the cloud and placing it on devices, for which Apple has a 2-3 year head start.

That's all well and good, but their implementation of it is still pathetic. The easiest example is cleanup. Samsung absolutely mops the floor with Apple with this feature. Apple is literally 2-3 years behind on just that one feature alone.

Hasn't this been said pretty continuously for the last decade. Maybe Cook should wait until Siri is ready before sprouting off. Oh, wait, it's Cook who never seems to miss an opportunity to pontificate.

I use Siri quite often.

... to set timers. That's pretty much the only thing I can consistenly count on it doing right. Anything else typically ends up with me wanting to throw my phone across the room.
I use Siri to mostly control lights. The oddest thing is I have 1 light that Siri can never control. Always replies “garage light not responding.”

Then I open the Home app, tap the garage light button and BOOM! outdoor lighting is go. No idea what causes the disconnect just for this 1 light. I’ve deleted and re-added the light a few times but it just doesn’t work.

Is anyone remotely interested in Siri anymore?!
We have a relatively robust HomeKit setup, and we use siri quite often for controlling our home. We have learned to work within its limits, and don't have many hiccups anymore. I for one can't wait for it to have expanded capabilities for controlling the home.

It seems almost impossible that Apple could be dead last in the AI race but here we are.
Actually that would be completely on brand for Apple - take their time, see what others do, and release something more polished and successful. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the pattern lately, so hoping they can execute this time.

Being too safe can be a detriment

We are passed that time. Other companies have lapped Apple and there are no signs of them catching up.

Apple CEO Tim Cook today said that a more personalized version of Siri remains on track to launch at some point next year, with the new set of features expected to debut on the iPhone as part of iOS 26.4 in March or April.

"We're also excited for a more personalized Siri," said Cook, on Apple's earnings call for the third quarter of the 2025 calendar year. "We're making good progress on it, and as we've shared, we expect to release it next year."

Apple first announced the personalized Siri features during its WWDC 2024 keynote, but in March it announced that they were delayed. The new capabilities will include better understanding of a user's personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls. For example, Apple showed an iPhone user asking Siri about their mother's flight and lunch reservation plans based on info from the Mail and Messages apps.

Apple is facing multiple class action lawsuits over the delayed features.

The current Siri version “26” still is 99.9999% useless. Can’t do the simplest tasks, and still can’t understand most questions. I’ve been with Siri since day 1, and Apple since the Apple ][…….. so disappointed. We NEED Woz to the rescue 🛟

That was my first thought. Next year can be very different from next spring.

I kinda hope it’s delayed again, because I think that would be funnier than new Siri would be useful. And I could use a good laugh in this bleak world.

Oh, you see now she does that perfectly for me. Is there any chance that higher RAM devices have Siri working better? She works perfectly fine on my M2 iPad Pro with 16 GB of RAM but not nearly as well on my iPad mini seven, with what…8? If you don’t mind telling me, what device is it that you have that she doesn’t do those functions on? I am getting curious now as to what makes the difference where she works at least OK on some devices and not others. I’d be curious about the consistency of accuracy on the ones that she does work well on. Or is there some other reason besides RAM? I’m very curious what March will bring.
