I’m over here quoting facts, which are all that matter. You’re spewing garbage.

Hmm, I quoted an article from a major medical website. Can't see where you have stated anything but your self-serving political opinion. Here's another:
[automerge]1582928944[/automerge]

The COVID-19 outbreak has not yet been declared a pandemic, as the majority of cases have occurred in China. But on Jan. 30, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a "public health emergency of international concern." The declaration was primarily due to concern that the virus could spread to countries with weaker health systems.

Current stats for all known cases, both active and closed:

Is a JAMA study of 70,000+ cases published on Feb. 24th good enough for you?

The CDC has tested fewer than 500 people so far. South Korea has tested 70,000.

The State of California only has 200 kits on hand. If you don't test, the disease doesn't exist, right?
Yep, and I'm sure this is the case in most countries worldwide. And most people who catch it simply get mild flu symptoms, so wouldn't even bother going to a doctor. However, when the virus spreads into a country, there will also be people starting to turn up to hospital with the serious end of the symptoms, and that's when the country finds out that it has cases.

Keep hoping ;( Pathetic that so many people are pulling for a disaster just to serve their politics.
I have an immune compromised family member. The fact you think anyone would be "rooting for this" is sick and demented. I posted factual information about the case fatality rate because I've been keeping up to date on the virus because it worries me. I don't like to see incorrect information getting posted.

I'm sure your attacks are Fox News talking points or something. I'm just going to ignore them and move on.

Yeah, tens of thousands of infections, thousands of deaths, and large-scale quarantines and lockdowns and shutdowns are totally the fault of the mEdiAa.

Like Influenza and other viral infections, MOST of the deaths have come from the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Unless you're old or have a compromised immune system, this shouldn't be causing panic shopping at grocery stores. This doesn't mean that Coronavirus isn't serious, it just means that panicking over a virus that is mostly affecting the old and sick isn't helping.

These are your "facts?"
From your post (No. 18):

"This may not be the Black Death but it’s shaping up to be the worst pandemic since 1918. No amount of Trump spin is going to change that."

I posted two links from reputable sites, you are the one editorializing. Exaggerating the situation and then blaming your political opponent. People like you are praying for a disaster just to support your politics and it's obvious.

Cue the hate...

Not hate but he's echoing Trump on this subject and he just now sounds like a politician's mouthpiece. clearly the cases continue to rise within China and just today 2 cases of USA citizen's within California testing positive yet have not recently travelled outside of the USA or the state. The mayor is working with local health orgs to find out who's been in contact with these two to lessen the spread.

So clearly he's wrong. And major investors and stocks across the S&P 500 clearly show this is NOT under control in any way.

All Cook cares about is the shareholders

Thanks for this. Reading between the lines it's clear that he's doing damage control, while being super-careful not to make promises that he knows he can't keep. In other words, it's clear that this coronavirus matter is far worse than most have realized yet.

Normally Cooks’ “damage control” falls flat and angers people about the missed opportunities

I don’t understand the small but vocal minority that insists these two, completely contradictory theories are simultaneously true:
  1. The Chinese government cares about nothing but money and treats their citizens like fodder
  2. The reaction by governments and media everywhere, including China, to alert the public, quarantine cities and shutter factories at the cost of billions is a gross overreaction

What is wrong with trying to calm people down a bit? The fact that you are a Sanders supporter tells me you probably don't have any money in the stock market, so I can see how all of this hysteria is lost on you and seems like a good political tool to beat the other side over the head with. Btw., I am a Bloomberg supporter.

What else would he care about? Here is a tip, besides your parents, spouse, and closest friends, no one on the planet is going to do what's in your best interest unless it is also in their best interest.

therein lies the root of greed and the problem with our world. Very rarely people act out of self gain ... even more so daily!

this world too readily and too powerfully and oftenly punishes those who try or do so.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but humans are self interested and it's important to have political infrastructure that functions in light of that. Which is why it is better to live in the US with separation of powers and checks and balances that over time cause individual self interest to temper other individual self interest, than a country like China where political power is concentrated in a few people. Just accept it and work within it. It is a huge mistake to assume there are people out there that can be trusted with power because they are selfless.

Uh, the case fatality rate I posted was fact, which I then backed up with the link to the JAMA study. The Trump part is political opinion, but I absolutely stand by it. He is not succeeding in reassuring the country.

Yeah, tens of thousands of infections, thousands of deaths, and large-scale quarantines and lockdowns and shutdowns are totally the fault of the mEdiAa.

Certain politicians seem to be able to hypnotize their victims... er, voters.

The stock market, which is the only thing that got Trump's attention, fell at historic proportions one day after another. Doesn't Wall Street love Trump? Yes. However, the appearance of a pandemic of this severity will keep lots of people in their homes. It will close all kinds of places. Any kind of public meeting. This will mean a slowdown, no way around it. Apparently, Unca Donald's strategy was to keep all those foreign viruses out with a big, beautiful wall. No way. If it gets here, it will mean lots of hardships. First death in the United States today. Of someone who had no known connection with China.

Actually, this is the time to listen to scientists, like Anthony Fauci, one of the very best and most experienced men, who served Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and now Trump. Time to invest more money to get us masks, and respirators, and all kinds of things will should be stockpiling. Time to get the correct information out to the people, to work together as a country to get us through this. It's not Democrats standing in the way of any of that. It's denial by Trump that any muscular reaction to this will be necessary. The stock market was telling the truth.

I had a meeting with someone in London who tested positive for it, then I had flu for two weeks... coincidence? I think not.

This is a possibility. It would be good to know, for you and me (had a similar experience, this is why I was asking).

Be safe and stay healthy

I’ve heard that Coronavirus is a global pandemic, and I’ve also heard it’s nothing but a “glorified flu”. I don’t know what to think anymore.

it is not yet classified as a pandemic.

it is a new breed of coronavirus, more or less aggressively attacks your respiratory system and leads to various outcomes from no symptoms at all to death, sometimes even in younger folks, this is what makes it scary.

It spreads easily and quickly. that makes it even more scary.

there ain't no vaccine yet and it ain't your average flu.

children do not seem to be hit that hard, but the older you are, the more underlying health issues you have the more likely it is going to get you
