That is not curation. That is rejecting apps that do not comply with their regulations or are malware.

Unfortunatley, that simply isn’t true. What Apple does with the App Store is “selection, organization, and presentation,” which is one of the dictionary definitions of curation.

No that’s not the right analogy. You’ve overlooked that the toy has already been purchased (the app downloaded) and now you can buy add-ons direct from the supplier (the subscription/in-app purchases).
