he wasnt lying -- i just got notified that my May 13-27 order (38 space gray) shipped today for delivery tomorrow.

my pre-order email is timestamped April 10, 12:05 AM. looks like they're moving on them -- and two weeks earlier than promised....nice work, apple!!

In any case, Apple had a new product that many companies had tried and failed to get to gain traction.

Apologies in advance for taking one sentence out of context, but I'm gonna use it as a jumping off point.

Other companies have not failed to get traction. The market has simply taken time to build up.

Sales of smart wearables have actually been doubling in sales for each of the past few years, and were expected to continue increasing at a large rate. From a prediction chart a year or two ago:

The smartwatch onslaught was coming whether Apple jumped in or not. In fact, that's undoubtedly why Apple finally did jump in... to ride the coming wave like everyone else.

I haven't seen anyone (from different blogs) say they are waiting for a Stainless Steel 42MM with white sport band and mine is not due to ship until June. Who else has ordered a 42MM SS WSB and is still waiting? Please let me know so i can at least know that it is in demand. :(

Just the fact that they are grouping it with the iPod and ATV, two devices that don't sell all that well, should tell you what they expect sales to be like. If they thought it was going to be a huge seller, it would get its own category like the iPhone and the iPad.

Or they just want to boost that category. Again, we don't know the "real" reasons behind that decision. One thing for sure, comes next quarter, you will see a sales jump in the "Others" category, and I am confident it's not because of ATV or iPOD.

Not nearly as many as you would think. They were quick to announce selling over 300k iPads the first day it went on sale in 2010, the last time they released a new product. If the Watch sold anything significant, you could bet there would have been an official release already. They aren't saying because 1) sales are probably terrible and they don't want anyone to know so they can still create an illusion of far more demand then supply. 2) if they came out saying they only sold 100k but the wait is 4-6 weeks, it would make them look very incompetent. Its rumored the new MacBook only sold 50k the first weekend and they can't even get enough of the 1.2GHz to those who ordered one at launch. Things have really gone off the rails since Steve died.

I ordered 42mm ss white sport band on April 12 with June shipping and I haven't heard or seen anything. Hopefully I see some change in two weeks and don't have to wait until June.

Since the 12th thats crazy. Guess i shouldn't hold my breath that i may get mine early.

Still Waiting.

First wave delivery window, for the 42mm SS BSB watch. Still process as of now. :( I know I'm still within the window, but it's killing me.

Sigh

I was skeptical about the watch thats why I didn't order one until I got to mess with it an Apple store so I didn't order untill April 24th. Of course I end up liking the one that everyone else wants too... 42mm Black Sport order status still says June... Do you guys think its accurate or not?

Er you're showing me a chart which was nothing but a prediction that showed sales in the toilet, but are now starting to jump in 2015 thanks to Apple. If Apple had not put their input into this market, it is highly unlikely that future trend would have happened.

Good to know. Now I only need to worry about is getting the watch ;-) lol
Well I am glad you got your watch. Enjoy it for me until I get mine.
Question, How heavily was the watch used? I mean if you used it a lot and it had 40% left at the end of the day, that really is good battery life.

I've heard similar things about the battery life. It's supposedly excellent.

Really good for a smart watch actually It thought t would be dead in half a day but it could last me probably till tomorrow morning for work I'm really proud of apple on this :)

I ordered a 42mm stainless with black classic band on the 10th around 2:10AM central. Logged into Apple's site this morning and the status had changed to preparing for shipment. About an hour later I got a text message that a large purchase had posted to my account. Two hours later I got an alert from UPS that a package will be delivered tomorrow.

Today was a good day.

That's pretty cool. How was your phone battery? Was it better or worse? I am hearing mix things about phone battery life.

My iPhone battery seems fine to me still lasts me a while but I have noticed a decrease in battery life not much since I have an iPhone 6 plus but Iam a beta tester so it could be iOS 8.4 but on iOS 8.3 battery seemed fine to me

A chart about the future "absolutely proves your point" (sic) (wearables shooting up anyway despite Apple), especially one in which Apple's sales count for so much in the first few years.

The future is bright, because of Apple. Do you really think those predictions make any sense if Apple wasn't involved? They look a lot like the predictions 1-1.5 years ago (only pushed a few years in the future), which turned out false because Apple didn't enter the market then (there were a lot of rumors though).

All those direct competitors which have flooded the market have had a tepid response (700K Android wear sold in 2014!), despite being priced 30-50% lower. Would people suddenly start buying products that they have avoided for years, just like that, without Apple kicking their ass so they produce something regular folks want to wear?

Apple' entry boosts/expands the market. Just like they did for tablets and phones.

The only product which have had any half way decent sales are bands; why, because they're inexpensive. Even there, revenues are still small despite selling a few millions.

The CEO of Pebble itself acknowledge that Apple will be the ones putting wearables into the mainstream; I think he knows his stuff better than most commenters here...

http://www.hngn.com/articles/77429/20150316/pebble-ceo-apple-watch-im-really-glad-getting-space.htm

Apple will likely be 75-85% of wearable sold this year (Most expect them to sell about 15M watches) and probably next year too (30-40M). If you look at profits from the category, Apple will likely get nearly 95% of it (just like they do in Tablets and phones, so I am not going too much on a limb there)
