I've had my account since 2004.
I can quite happily say that there is a "none button" on my Payment Information Edit Page, and I have swapped from having a credit card on record, to none, and back again several times over the years.

I have set up itunes accounts for my kids, and set the payment details to none, so they can download free content quite happily.

If you don't mind please share your method. When I log into my account to edit payment info I don't see the *none* option. I even tried deleting my existing cc# and expiration but when I tried to save it forced me to enter another number or cancel out of it.

Did you originally set up your account to none and maybe thats why you still have the option available?

edit: just notice you are in UK...maybe that has something to do with it?

I downloaded bowtie mac application which is listed as free but it charged me the same price had i downloaded bowtie the song. what the heck man. I know it was the application that i downloaded because i was playing with it but my bank statement says i was charged a dollar. something isnt right. I shouldnt be charged for a free application. I havent bought a paid app or song in months. I dont even know how to fix this.

I have the same problem so far i have been charged almost £200 for free apps when i try to contact Apple i have no joy, now my bank are investigating this matter as fraud, you need to go through your bank, as fraud has been commited
