i believe you can connect a PS3 to it with an HDMI to DVI cable.....not sure though

doubtful since it isn't dual-link... gaming systems don't have the graphics to push 2560x1600

Also, the new "HC" 30" Dell is available (at a lower price than the Apple btw). From the reports I've read, this LCD shows a large improvement in color handling. So until Apple refreshes their cinema displays, they can't claim a higher-quality 30" monitor than Dell.

Better, AND cheaper? I guess it's settled - I am going with the Dell

Is it? I can't find it on Dell's website. Of course I have trouble finding anything on that website.

the only one you can see on dell's regular site is HC... unless you can stumble your way thru its refurb, or outlet store, you can't see non-HC one

What About The 30" HP With High Color Gamut & 3 Dual Link DVI Inputs?

Better, AND cheaper? I guess it's settled - I am going with the Dell
Are you sure you don't want the 3 DL DVI Input 30" HP LP3065? It's got the same superior High Color Gamut as the Dell with 3 inputs for no more money. Even includes two Dual Link Cables. I think it's much better way to go when you spend that much money. Otherwise later you'll have to buy a 4 port DL DVI Switch for $800.

Here are the details at the Hewlett Packard website.
Hewlett Packard Website said:
Overview: The HP LP3065 Flat Panel Monitor offers best-in-class performance and presentation features on a stunning 30-inch wide-aspect screen well suited for power users, designers, content creators, and professionals working in visualization who need the best color and highest resolution available.

Features

Enhanced performance: Get amazing crisp, clear, high-definition views of the work you've invested your time and talent in creating with presentation features such as 1000:1 contrast ratio, sharp, high graphics resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, 92% color gamut, and an extra-bright wide-format 30-inch screen.

Improved compatibility: The built-in USB hub enables quick and easy connections to a variety of peripherals, including the HP Silver Flat Panel Speaker Bar (sold separately), which fits neatly under the monitor to bring speakers right to the desktop.

Flexible configurations: Work the way you want with a monitor that supports desktop, wall, and swing arm mounting; the integrated power supply eliminates bulky "power bricks" and improves cable management, allowing you to minimize desktop clutter and mount the monitor flush with the wall. Thin bezels on all four sides let you "tile" multiple displays on a wall for panoramic viewing of large data displays on trading floors or in other data-intensive environments.

Comfortable viewing: Achieve your most comfortable viewing position with the adjustable screen height, tilt, and swivel features; super-wide 178-degree viewing angles let you view the monitor from almost anywhere in the room without compromising image quality.

So You Can Hook Up The Mobile Mac As Well As The Desktop Mac

Why do I need more ports?
So you can attach both your desktop Mac and your mobile Mac to it plus one other Mac or PC with a DL DVI output. One other thing, the resale value of a HP will be much higher due to the 3 inputs capability which many computer users can use.

Buying the HP for the same money as Dell is like getting an $800 four port DL swithch for FREE. Another way of looking at it is it's like getting the 30" monitor for $800 with an $800 DL switch. Anyway you slice it the HP is a much bigger better value than any other monitor on the market.

$1600 at B&H.

Only one computer could use it at a time, no?

well, you can only use one computer at a time too... the idea is that if you use 2 or 3 computers frequently, you only need one monitor, and you dont need to swap cables all the time.

Yeah, that's pretty useless to me. Honestly I can't handle that switching ****, that's why I am getting a 30" - So I can just have everything on the monitor without cmd+tabbing everywhere just to see some data.

If I truly need to use another source, I would buy a new monitor and a new computer.

I am probably going to go with the dell by the sound of things, it seems better than the apple (besides all those cables, yuck - but I will have to deal with it eh?)

Why Buy Dell When HP Costs The Same?

OK. So would you mind telling me why the Dell when the price is the same and they both use the new High Color Gamut Cold Cathode Lamp? I mean what's the downside to the HP with those extra inputs so it has higher resale value?

I don't know how reliable HP is honestly, everything I've had from dell worked pretty well.

Hmpph, not sure. How reliable is HP?

Hewlett Packard Is As Reliable As Any Brand Can Be

Are you kidding me? Hewlett Packard is one of the oldest computer companies of all — way older than Dell. You can expect only the best from Hewlett Packard. This is a new model so there isn't a track record on either product. But HP has been selling monitors for just as long as Dell has and they are totally reliable.

Are you so young that you don't know that?

Ha, no - just never bought a HP. I always built my own computers until recently.
edit: well HP should hire you, because I'm going to buy it asap :)

edit: edit: now I am having dilemmas on thinking the 30" may be unreasonable for the price and just getting a 24" dell, arg I hate when I get into dilemma mode.

im not for a second defend Dell. however. i am going to tell you that your logic sucks.

an "old" company isn't specifically a good thing.

also. if you're going to give advice, try not to assume everyone has 3 MacPros and a MBP on their desk.

I use an HP LP2065 20" display and I like it a lot.
Had it for over a year with no issues.
Using the multiple inputs is very easy as well.

Dell or HP or Apple are all large, established manufacturers. Find the best deal you can get and if you need ports or like the look of one better, get that.

I think having multiple inputs would make it more useful, and if its the same price as the dell, and you like the looks, then get the HP one.

Yeah, I'm probably going to go for the refurb then. I honestly don't need the highest quality possible. I just want some screen real estate. Sure I do some design work, but I seriously don't require the highest quality, especially if I've been doing it on the computers I have been doing it over the years (low quality)

Anyway, I was wondering something about dual-dvi. Do the monitors come with that? And I was just looking at my macbook pro (came in today, woot) and it only has one dvi thingie, doesn't the 30" monitors require "two dvi" slots?

ACDs are way overdue for an update. I would wait, if you can, to see what those updates are. After all, the Apple is certainly going to be a more attractive object to live with, something that is not unimportant.
