Apple Clashing With Publishers Over Subscription News Service

The next big thing, in the form of wearables, is already here. The haters just refuse to see it yet.

I assume you're referring to the AW?
A wearable such as the AW is still just a complement to your smartphone.
Voice is improving but are still not great with Siri. For tracking health, yes it's great.
But in terms of usability, it will always be limited by it's screen size.
There's a reason for multiple screen size devices.

On a side note, I would certainly welcome such a feature as a consumer.

First, going through Apple means the news companies never get my contact details or credit card numbers. That they don’t get my viewing data sounds like a plus for me as well.

Second, it’s easier to pay 1 fee to Apple, rather than manage multiple subscriptions to numerous outlets.

It’s the whole Netflix argument all over again. I would rather go through iTunes and have all my subscriptions in one place, with Apple playing gatekeeper, than deal separately with individual companies.

I am never going to subscribe to these companies on their own. Opting not to support Apple news simply means their news will never reach me.

Yet when it comes to discussions like this, the focus never seems to focus on the end user. It’s always about now Apple is supposedly trying to earn a quick buck here or there, but not the benefits to the reader.

Could it be because this article is being covered by news outlets who stand to have the most to lose from Apple news being rolled out in its current incarnation?

The fact that an Apple cult member welcomes a new Apple feature is not that interesting.

And of course Apple is both a hardware and software company!

You are incorrect.

System software and Application software are not the same things. System software is operating systems and associated software written to support the hardware platform and -the important part- cannot be sold as a stand alone product. The iOS GM by itself is not a software product - its only function is to enable the usability of an iOS HARDWARE device. And consider this: How well would iOS devices sell if iOS did not contain a 'platform' mail app or web browser? Answer: zero.

To Apple, software is an 'overhead' expense incurred to sell hardware. This is why the quality of Apple software has been in a death spiral since the iOS 9 era (9/2015). Apple introduced multiple new hardware platforms in 2015 (Watch, Apple TV w/apps, iPad pro, etc..) that caused iOS codebase 'disruption' - and software quality was devastated at the cost of 'shipping' "the money", which is hardware.

Also, Please support your claim that Apple is also a software company by demonstrating how Apple has profited from selling software products (provide accounting, specifically profit and loss statements for software). This cannot be shown - believing Apple has ever made a profit from selling software is a fantasy.

Anyone who uses the term “virtue signaling” really means “i want to judge people based on immutable characteristics or life choices that are none of my business.”

No, Apple should go back to maki g great products instead of weighting in on politics all the time.

Your comment shows how bad the state of the USA really is. You have almost the same amount of upvotes as the initial comment you are replying to, which shows how decided the country is between “left” and “right“.

Instead of arguing who is right like in a superpower in decline you guys should find a way to find some common ground.
