Wow! At least in some places they take controlling transmission of a disease for which humans have minimal resistance and for which no vaccines exist, seriously.

Denmark is following suit. It's also on a semi-lockdown, closing schools, universities and government offices.

The Italian government just mandated every business to be closed apart from supermarkets and pharmacies. This will last at least 14 days. Hope my Mac does not need fixing in the next weeks.

You think Apple cares about cash? Their quarterly earning reports are all about STOCKHOLDERS! They are who matter. And the loss of sales will NOT make them happy.

Yeah and uhhh guess who is affected by this? Everyone. Nothing the stockholders can do. Very few stocks are performing well. If the stockholders and investors are mad for a quarter, oh well. Apple will survive And so will the individuals with a stake.

This article makes it sound like Apple is being proactive by shutting their stores, but it should clarify that Italy is enforcing by law all stores to close except pharmacies and grocery stores.
Actually Apple's decision predates the Italian government's announcement which was made hours later. They might have been notified beforehand though of course.

I don’t want to read about ********s, I want to read about useless Mac news. The health panic about low IQ‘S world is not equal. Thanks.

Yeah, this “article” is misleading, surprisingly. Apple did it because they were forced to, not out of the goodness of their heart.
That’s not quite true (as far as we know). Apple’s announcement preceded the government announcement by several hours. We don’t know for sure whether Apple knew it was coming or not, but if other businesses knew they didn’t also make similar announcements, so there’s at least a good chance one had nothing to do with the other.

Everyone in Italy knew that non-essential commercial activities would soon be forced to close. Apple waited until the last minute before “voluntarily” deciding to close its stores, because their “priority remains the health and safety of everyone in the communities they serve”. 😉

Yet every other business waited until after the government announcement to close?

Not at all. Several companies and shops shut down earlier. Others closed when the rumor about an imminent mandatory shut down went out, like Apple.

Apple should extend warranty in affected regions.
yes in China. If I remember correctly, Apple officially announced several weeks ago that your Apple product gets 1-time out-of-warranty repair for free, if the warranty ends by 2020.01.31

Apple communicated the closing just a few hours before the government initiative.
Many retailers did the same already - At least in Lombardy, since Monday 50% of retailers were already closed. A few more, like apple, followed in the next couple of days.
Apple is paying employees as normal, but it’s not common. Other retailers forced employees to use paid vacation days, or unpaid leave.

The governor of Lombardy had been asking for a complete lockdown since the beginning of the week. Even before the official announcement by the government everyone was expecting that non essential activities would soon ben forced to close.
The online store is still open though. That's a good news, as I'm working from home like thousands of other people. If something happens to my Mac I can't take it to an AS or to an authorised reseller but at least I can buy a new one and continue working.

Reading the law, computer and electronics stores can stay open! As I said earlier, there's need for computers, as a lot of people use smartphones and no longer have a suitable PC to work from home.
Also home appliances seems to be in high demand.

True and it makes sense, as people are relying on smartphones and computers more than ever now to work remotely. Most of the Apple resellers are closed though, so if you need to repair an Apple product you can only ship it to them or as I said buy a new one either online or in one of the electronic stores that are open. The main electronic store in Italy states on its site that all its retail stores are opened as usual.
