I'd like to preface this with the fact I know there's a pandemic going on and I know Apple have just launched the new iPhones, but I'm curious - I'm in the market for a new MacBook (likely a Pro, but undecided) and am quite shocked at how far out the shipping dates are, for the stock configurations.

This doesn't just seem to be for MacBooks but iMac as well.

In the UK at least, they're well into mid November or later. Is this normal/has this been the case most of the year? I haven't been looking. Or is it possibly due to the upcoming rumoured event?

It is surprising to me that you can't get a stock model sooner than waiting 3+ weeks.

Same here in the U.S, the stock configuration that stores normally care are 3+ weeks out.

My sister had this issue in ordering a 12.9" iPad Pro back in July. The model was not personalized/engraved; just a standard model. And it was on a 1 month backorder. I think it's mostly got to do with the Pandemic and the spike in demand from all of the work-from-home surging.

I noticed this too. And, I'm in NYC/NJ metro area and most apple stores show as out of stock as well as long delivery times...

Any Apple events planned?
Yeah this. The expected November event is rumored to be the new Apple Silicon Macs (even Mac Book Air and Pro which had Intel models released earlier this year) and they've reduced production on old models before new ones get released.
