So far the image didn't change. Another evidence that it's not more than a new years greeting and most likely no ad campaign as some people (an rumour sites) have claimed.

Why is everyone still ignoring the banner is ONLY on the US and UK website.

If it would be a product ad it would be GLOBAL wouldn't it?

Ok?

Not true. If it would be something with a global effect it would propably appear on all global markets.
Usually products come to the US and UK first and later dripple into the other markets. Here in Germany we get Macs often some days or even weeks later.

I think this time it's just because of the language why it only appears on the english sites.

No no no no

You are alll ssssooooo wwwwrrrrrroooooonnnnngggg... The message this year is that the leopard is going to be realeased at march.... BUT, for 30 years Apple have only been making software for there own computers. From March 2007 You wil be able to install Leopard on every computer.!!!???

What about that?

hehe but it's new, instead of all that talking about iphone and all that bla bla again and again. :)

As far as I know, the iTV is not a DVR and will not be a DVR. Apple said they had no interest in this money losing market. They've said similar things in the past and then released products but if you can record shows on the iTV what's the point of buying and streaming them from you Mac/PC?
When did Apple say they weren't interested in DVRs?

TV is about to evolve into an IPTV realm. How companies make money, how the networks & cable companies shuffle to use the new technologies, that's all an unknown.

One model would be an iTV purchasing movies and TV shows. It'll get really expensive if you get all your TV that way.

Another model could be subscribing to a movie channel or a network and downloading any shows from the previous day to watch within a week. And/or subscribing to streaming sports & news channels.

etc.

If I could subscribe to some movie channels & the scifi channel, and record from FTA (for free), that would be enough for me. I wouldn't need to pay the big $$$ for cable TV. If Apple resells the subscription then they'll make some money from me, and they'll make money by selling me the iTV and my iPod. I rarely buy movies or shows since I simply don't watch them enough to justify it - if you pay $2 for any show you watch (more for movies) it adds up too fast.

edit: I actually don't see Apple selling a DVR... just think your reasoning is flawed :). I could imagine Apple offering a FTA network, free via iTV, with interactive/customised ads.

Comprehensive Analysis Once And For All

Right, I am afraid to say it but you are all in fact wrong.

Here is the true meaning of the code, err... i mean teaser:

1) There is light behind the Apple, symbolising illumination and enlightenment. We can take this to mean that Steve Jobs is admitting to being an Illuminatus, and so is preparing to unveil a secret that would devastate the very foundations of mankind, as that is what Illuminati tend to do these days.

2) The Apple is black, which, in French, is written NOIR. This is abviously an Anogram of R(h)INO, suggesting that Apple's new OS will no longer be 'Leopard' but will start off OS11, whose names take after wrinkly land based creatures such as Rhino, Elephants and Tricerotops.

3) The light from behind the Apple is coming from an uneven source (read:uneven sauce), much like thick gravy or that Thai sweet-chilli stuff you sometimes get. This shows that Apple is just the beginning of the culinary spectrum that Jobs' company intend to release. Expect to see Nacho Computers spring up alongside OS11.2 hippo.

4) The image is in 16:9 format. If you take those two numbers, they both add up to give 25, which is a quarter of 100, the Maltese number for Time. Co-incidence? I think not.

5) The top line of text is an anagram of: Featherweight nitty-gritty sunshine beer jrs, which clearly links in with point (1) and point (3), linking them through text, proving a strong, subliminal base for the message.

This proves that the iTV will indeed be revealed at this year's MWSF.

:D That was hilarious Much Ado.

Does anyone else think the iTV looks bollocks? It's too small, and a little too plasticy. A long, thin, black set top bx - smooth and bezeled to match a new UI, would be much nicer than the current sticklebrick that looks more like the power adapter than the actual hardware.

Correct, iTV is what is referred to as a media center extender. What it does is stream your media center files to your PC. I wouldn't call this exactly a money making market. Unlike the iPod/iTunes situation, this is not a giant improvement on the current situation. In fact, one could that it's not an improvement at all.

Have you seen one in real life? If not then I'd say you can't judge.

Do you believe the Mac mini matches your criteria of small and plasticy, if not then I can't see how the iTV would. The thing is effectively a squished Mac mini.

Goodbye Cruel World

Steve Jobs will invite the mac faithful to board a space ship at the SF expo, a sort of intergalactic utopia. But it is all lies and we are part of a religious sect whose time it is to take the pill. The expo will be in the news for one big reason and it has nothing to do with computers. We have been officially brainwashed and all along we should have listened to our Windows brethren.

N.B. For those of a paranoid disposition this post is entirely fictitious. Or, have I been brainwashed too?

My reasoning isn't flawed. Apple said they are not trying to replace Tivo

https://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/03/20060302182100.shtml

"We're not trying to replace the TiVo," he says. "This is about taking the media from your computer and accessing it via the TV." - Phil Schiller

Mini Redesign

If Apple decide to redesign the Mini, maybe they should take a look at the latest shuttle.

Thanks, I know what the iTV is :p I was just responding to the fact that so many people seem to think this will include a DVR.

So far so good, but I think you'll need a connection to the Kennedy Assassination and Elvis Going Home before it's entirely plausible.
