I *think* if I bought a Verizon X on Apple.com it's unlocked right? I can throw in my AT&T Prepaid SIM, and also be able to move later to Verizon or whatever else I might like?

I'm toying with buying one, and wanted to double check...

Okay, thanks! Yeah it didn't before, but seems to now. I'm about all the way through checkout.

Not going to go through with it but if I decide to...

it is but you can't buy one without a verizon account.

I bought mine without Verizon account at the Apple Store on November 4, Saturday. Waited 1.5hrs, but was worth it.

Yes, OP. It is unlocked. Typing on mines right now with AT&T signal

You can buy Verizon phone without Verizon account as long as you pay it in full price and choose “activate later” before check out when you buy it online. Apple makes it easy now for anyone to purchase any carrier phones without having to have any carrier account as long as buying the phone full price.

Nice, thanks guys! The fact you're actually typing on it Charadis is preeeeeeetty good confirmation! :-D
[doublepost=1511368286][/doublepost]Originally when my 6s quit charging I was going to rte place it with an X...but then needed one much faster of cousre do bought an SE, and now I'm left...unsure if I should do this. But I may. Use the SE as a backup.

I'm toying with going to Comcast though as it's supposedly $45 for a really good plan, assuming they don't raise the price. Right now you have to have one of their Locked Comcast phones though...

Looks like they just recently added that "Activate with your Carrier Later" option. It's still the carrier specific SKU, not the sim-free SKU, but for the Verizon model that doesn't really matter as it's the same unlocked A1865 model.

When they DO have an official "unlocked" version (like with the 8/8 Plus) that's one that works on Verizon/Sprint too, right? But really the same thing...

Best Buy does already sell the sim-free version, but they charge $100 more for it. But there's no reason to buy that when the Verizon model is identical, other than it has a sim presinstalled (and the part # on the box is slightly different)
