The iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 updates that Apple started testing last week are set to be released to the public this December, Apple said today in a newsroom article highlighting Apple Intelligence capabilities.

"New Apple Intelligence features will be available in December," reads Apple's article. The update will add the first image generation features, including Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand, plus it includes ChatGPT integration with Siri and new, more flexible Writing Tools options. For iPhone 16 users, the iOS 18.2 update adds visual intelligence, which uses Camera Control to identify and provide additional information about objects and places.

iOS 18.2 will also see Apple Intelligence gain support for localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the UK in addition to U.S. English.

As of right now, iOS 18.2 and its sister updates are available to developers for testing, but Apple will likely make a public beta available at some point. A December release gives Apple approximately a month and a half to test the new feature set, depending on the planned release date.

Apple's .2 updates are typically released in December during the same general timeframe, so if Apple sticks to that, we could see a launch on December 9th or 10th, well ahead of the holiday period.
  • iOS 17.2: December 11
  • iOS 16.2: December 13
  • iOS 15.2: December 13
After iOS 18.2, Apple will start testing iOS 18.3. That update is likely to come out at some point in January or February, and it will be followed by iOS 18.4 in April.

Apple said today that it plans to bring Apple Intelligence to the iPhone and iPad in the European Union in April, plus we are awaiting other Apple Intelligence features like Priority Notifications, and Siri features that include onscreen awareness, personal context, and the ability to take new actions in and across apps.

Customers who install iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1 on a device capable of supporting Apple Intelligence can try out Writing Tools, Smart Replies summaries, and other Apple Intelligence features as of today.

Finally, the iPhone 16 i bought in September will finally be an upgrade in December.
Poor EU people will have to wait until April for their upgrade..

That's right, folks, iOS 18.1 is OLD NEWS! Get ready for the ALL NEW iOS 18.2, with the groundbreaking image generation and, for the first time ever in an iPhone, NATIVE CHATGPT support. This update will truly bring AI for the rest of us!

Wait, so December before these features work in the final release, or December before they even work in the beta?

Will Siri with ChatGPT be supported for any iPhones that work with iOS 18.2 or only the ones that also support Apple Intelligence as well?

Here it’s all just a bit silly.

In the UK if I set language on iOS to USA 🇺🇸 then AI does not work anymore. It must be set to English (original and best)

However that setting syncs to my MacBook, where UK English will not activate Apple Intelligence, USA language is required.

Just badly thought out.

ChatGPT works on the 18.2 beta now. I have a paid account, but works just fine without one.

Still waiting on the Image Playground features. I downloaded the day it launched, but apparently Apple is slow walking the rollout.

True. It’s much, much longer than I’d like to have to wait but I’m glad that we have a date, at least.

cool. Can we get multiple user profiles? Would be nice to have completely separate spaces. Thank you.

Wonder if the international release with additional languages will be a staggered release as well. Kind of messy to keep up with for the regular user, not reading pages like MR in their daily life

Apple doesn't care about poor people! Everyone get their own device

Everyone can get there own device. Having separate spaces for one person has nothing to do with multiple people. I'm talking about separate spaces for one single person. Not multiple people.

They can limit the feature to devices with at least 512gb. that way it requires people to pay for the feature. Everyone wins - apple and consumers.

Fail to see the use case for this. You can already sort of do something like that with Focus Modes? My iPhone set up is completely different when I am on work focus for example

Focus modes doesn't do data segregation. Multiple profiles does.

Update - if they can *bring* data segregation options to focus modes, that would be appreciated.
