I will cut Apple some slack for trying to build privacy into it better, but it's kind of frustrating considering I can do AI stuff through Gemini on the Google app on my iPhone right now. I could even remove stuff from my pictures if I used Google Photos.
That's not to say I will, because honestly I don't want to use Google services anymore than I already do, but it would have been neat if Apple would have found a way to implement at least some of the AI features on most devices.
I have a 15 Pro so I'm still somewhat covered, but my wife has a 15 that will lose out entirely and that's a major bummer. There was always. Feature or two that dropped, but I don't believe for a second that it wasn't apparent to Apple a year ago that the RAM and/or SoC in the 15 wasn't going to be enough and they built the device anyway. Slightly undermines my belief that iPhones are more future proof than other devices.
Edit: Plus, I'm not sure yet which AI features I'll actually use, but I've been wanting Apple's version of Google'a magic eraser ever since Google introduced it on the Pixel 6 all those years ago. Now they roll it out with 18.1 and it still doesn't work because it doesn't work with the phone set to British English. Photo editing. The whole role out is a joke.
