No, the worst part of UI design (or design in general) is to make changes purely for the sake of change!!!!!!!

It wasn't for the sake of change, it was because the old design looked stale and outdated. Are you one of those people who would never renovate your kitchen as long as its still functional? I'm not, I like change and fresh designs every so often.

This week has changed a lot of people's views of Apple. It's making people realize Apple is a company, just like all the rest.

Thats bad for Apple, especially for the :apple: brand. Jobs created a 'religion' that sold really great devices. Cook transformed it into 'just a company' selling good, but not great, devices.

This week showed people how much Apple struggles; and how delusional and arrogant Apples leadership really is.

I'm shocked :(

6or7

Personally, I don't like either of them.
I think apple should keep the balance between heavy-texture and over-minimalism(also get rid of over-saturated colors).

After how iOS7 and the new Mac Pro's designs turned out, that's actually the right move. More ugly designs coming in without Jobs regulating it.

This is ridiculous. So tiring seeing people moan about iOS here. Just because YOU don't like the new UI doesn't mean EVERYBODY ELSE doesn't. People here need to learn that they =/= the rest of the world. The vast majority of people seem to love ios 7. The adoption rate proves this (yes you can't roll back, but it doesn't automatically update and people have the choice). The world does not revolve around you. Most people were tired of the UI and Apple needed to change it to stay relevant. Glossy, skeumorphic designs are terribly outdated. Stop whining, jeez.

This, this, this... is what's wrong with people these days. You assume that since you don't like it, then it must be hideous. Can you qualify why anyone should care what you think? Plenty of people like iOS7. Someone even posted a survey the other day showing that people largely prefer the iOS7 elements over iOS6.
Guess what, UI design at least in this regard is subjective. You like stark white backgrounds with bare text. Okay, I can dig it. I like something that looks like more than 5 minutes, a desire to copy Microsoft's flat tiles, and an acid trip were put into the design. Which is how Jony Ive's stab at UI has struck me since day one. I can't stand Google's "Appropriating my Data is Okay with Me" TOS and like Apple's ecosystem far too much to change, but that doesn't mean I like it. I count in the iOS 7 adopter ranks as well. Also doesn't mean I like it.

I only hope Ive doesn't turn OSX disgusting as well with Mavericks' successor after 13 years of a beautiful interface. Although of course, all reports are he's doing exactly that.

And the intuitive thing... just because you can't figure it out, does not in turn make it not intuitive.

[end rant]
Ah, going personal already. I accept your concession of my point. ;)

After seeing the Jobs movie on Netflix I admire this guy

There was supposed to be some brutal honesty going on it the design shop according the the recent Jobs movie. The truth is iOS 7 is terrible. Why I call my iPhone 5 with 6 an "ultimate edtion".

This is not new at all. Think about how many people left when Steve was there. Avie, Fred Anderson, Faddell, Rubinstein, etc. It happens.
People are worried about tension and conflicts, but it was like that under Steve. Tim is good cop, and Ive is bad cop probably. I think people are looking into it way too much.

There sure has been an exodus of good seasoned talent at Apple since the death of Jobs.

Funny how the moment the word hits the street suddenly the forum members trash them.

I'm sorry. I thought details matter at Apple. Apparently fanboys are willing to compromise.

What you think is good and what Apple's design team thinks is good are clearly two different things. "Good" is subjective. I'll be the first to admit I wasn't a fan of a few of the icons at launch, namely Safari and Settings, but I've moved on. Sorry if you think that means I'm a "fanboy".

When Scott Forstall's departure was announced Apple didn't deny or downplay any of the rumors surrounding his departure. Kind of curious why they're choosing to do so now with Christie unless Gurman really did get bad information (or purposely spun the information in a certain way to get more attention/page views).

I know this.

People here need to learn that they =/= the rest of the world.
MacRumors =/= the rest of the world.

Many users were unaware of UI changes before updating and more and more apps require iOS 7.

The world does not revolve around you. Most people were tired of the UI and Apple needed to change it to stay relevant.
Everyone had a lot of time to switch to Android 4.* or Windows Phone for a decent flat UI before the release of iOS 7.

Glossy, skeumorphic designs are terribly outdated.
Just like "SimCity 4" is horribly outdated compared to "Paradise Island". Or "Rubber Soul" compared to "Random Access Memories". I get it.

Stop whining, jeez.
Just to end this:

I hate iOS 7.

FWIW, Bob Borchers who worked at Apple (part of the original iPhone team) and now works for Dolby, tweeted that 9to5Mac's story is "total BS" and that Christie is "well respected" and "the details are important".

Do an image search for Greg Christie, Apple on google and you get more images of Jony! That would be enough to piss me off if I was him.

Wrong metaphor! Physical materials deteriorate over time. In addition, kitchen cabinets pile up grease. If you have to use kitchen cabinets as a metaphor, iOS 7’s “flatting” is more like a cabinet manufacturer calling back and throwing away its well-designed well-received fancy-shaped with-carving cabinet doors, and pouring a lot of money to remanufacture plain doors that are very similar to the products from all of the other manufacturers.

Nicely done. Only took until the fifth post to turn this article on a whole other subject into crying about iOS7. World record whining time.

You just broke that! It took you first post (critical of iOS7) to start whining about the "whiners". Not sure who the bigger whiner is...
