My reaction if iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a lightning port.

Looking forward to USB-C, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll ever be able to have my dream of USB-C everything. Right now, my iPhone, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max are all still lightning. My Apple Watch has its own charger. I still have USB-A to lightning chargers too. Trying to keep organized:

  • USB-C to USB-C
  • USB-C to Lightning
  • USB-C to Apple Watch charger
  • USB-A to Lightning
is a messy, annoying [first world] nightmare.
I still have devices on 5 different USB port standards that I use regularly. My Apple device ecosystem is hardly contributing to my cable woes.

Why not just use MagSafe or Qi for the iPhone and AirPods Pro?

Why not just use MagSafe or Qi for the iPhone and AirPods Pro?

I use a stationary wireless charger for iPhone and AirPods Pro at home, but I bring charging cables and bricks with me when I go most places. My AirPods Pro don’t support MagSafe (gen 1), and even if I had a mobile MagSafe charger, that’d only complicate my charging cable lineup more since it’d just add another cable I need to bring rather than consolidate them.

Theyd actually earn respect if they just admitted they should have done it sooner.

They won't though, theyre greed addicted scumbags with no integrity.

Honestly, i'd respect any company more if they just gave up with the spin and told the story like it was.

Stop green washing and eco guilting people to disguise the simple fact that the only green they actually care about is money.

Early on in the iPhone 15 development process, Apple created a version that included a Lightning port, according to Apple leaker Unknownz21.
Probably because the greedy CEO Tim Cook wanted to keep on milking that MFi money. Had it not been for the EU forcing Apple to adopt USB-C, Cook would've continued Lightning indefinitely, leaving users stuck with USB 2.0 wired data transfer rates. That's precisely what he did with the iPhone 14:

Buy this cable

Then add a USB-C (F) to USB-C (F) to plug in the USB-C Apple Watch Cable

That's what I do, I carry one cable and one USB Adapter when I travel.. In my roller bag, I carry one more RS Cable along with my 140w travel charger

Left Side = In rolling luggage
Right Side = In Backpack

All bases covered

Lightning is the most robust and easy to use connector I have ever had and used in my life.

And I go way back. My first connectors were 8 pin, to all vacuum tube apparatus. No BS. Then transistors came along and barrel connectors came with them. Barrel connectors: They're OK, second best of all time IMO. SCSI sucked, being massive, and severely distance limited and $$$$$! Headphone jacks were fine, scratchy sometimes but mostly work. RCAs are still around, good and cheap. Screw on connectors like for cable TV and antennas eventually always strip, usually do to slight out of spec thread cutting by the manufacturer. Serial sucked, constant connection issues due to line noise. Early Apple had some other weird ports I don't remember and never used. The IBMPC keyboard and VGA connectors sucked.

miniUSB I thought was Ultimate Hell until microUSB came along and explained to me true torture. Then Lightning, by the grace of God, graced my world. Greatest connector ever designed. The cables die, buthe port never does. It's unbelievable how robust the lightning port is!

USB-C connector is S H I T!!!!! I hate it. It's not as bad as microUSB, but what the hell kind of a low bar is that to beat?!?!? They are a BAD DESIGN. They will INEVITABLY break, and then generally the device is done. Worthless unless you're great and disassembly of glued parts and microsoldering.

Sigh. I give up. Whatever. I suffered with microUSB for years, I guess I'll be used to the pain again.

Apple is so Arrogant, they will for sure tout environmental savings/benefits by going to USB-C and I bet wont even ship with a cable, you know, you can use the one you already have...

Cool cool, I'll be over here with my BT headphones and my Qi charger - I don't think I've ever plugged my phone into anything..

Apple also has the option to include both ports same way as some gaming Android phones have two Type-C ports. And yes there is enough room inside as when Apple removed the SIM tray from the US version of the iPhone 14 line they replaced it with a simple plastic box.
