As itunes radio is only in a couple of places, its not surprising that uptake is slow.

1. Open it to all markets.
2. Reduce track pricing, or at least for compressed content, same price bracket for lossless.
3. Better analytics of tracks listened to on iTunes radio, and on the music app for them to fine tune the recommendations, especially genre based.

I know that they are in the hands of the major labels, but there is more indie and small labels content on iTunes that gets little to no exposure - Apple need to level the playing field, then artists, labels and listeners can all play together.

Its not going to be the end of other streaming services, download services, but reducing the cost of tracks to purchase will certainly cut down on the coping via torrent.

There is nothing apple or any other music service company can do to stop the decline of music sales unless the artists themselves make better music. Only about 5% of today's music is tolerable.

As you say you don't care about the legality of passing on or selling these files.

why would I? how are these digital files any different than a CD or a DVD?

Problem with files is there is no way of telling if they are legal or not. You can sell a CD as it is a physical item but digital files are different. Also if you have any DRM involved there is no way of passing anything on because they don't let you bequeath or sell your account or transfer the files to another account.

What burden of proof do I have to show they are legal? None. How does one prove I didn't steal the CD's on my shelf making my possession of them illegal? You can't. I don't have to have a receipt for any of them, digital or on my shelf. DRM is meh...when iTunes had it embedded, it was the first thing I removed from the files when I downloaded them.

they don't want you to sell your music or pass it on because they don't make any more money that way. Better for them to force each new generation to buy it again

That's what I meant when I said 'Tough" I do what I want with my files whether they be movies, music, pictures, etc. Tough. I'm not "selling" them but I can give whatever I want to whoever I want and no one is going to tell me I can't.

Apple, get 3 sizes of iPhone out there (Like HTC) for everyone to be happy with - size wise, and more people will be prone to a): buy iPhones and b): use iTunes.

HTC has an 1. htc one nano, 2. the HTC one (mid size), and the 3. HTC Max (6"). These all hit the streets within one year or less - and even models have even been updated since.

Remember in 2007 when Steve Jobs came out and announced to the world "the New Ipod THAT NOW HAS A PHONE"!?!?! These things were initially made to sell music.

Now, an announcement of an anouncement that will happen in a month and a half, for 1 new product once a year is old. Sheesh. Quit trying to be the elitist company you once were. That ship has sailed.

Holy crap, AMEN!

I'm 25, and when I saw a special on the Beatles' 40th anniversary this past year I thought "Good lord....they had the Beatles back in the 60s. We have Justin Bieber."

I swear, I about cried.

So just venture beyond the mainstream...

Or.....just do what I do and listen to older music. It never makes sense to me when people complain about todays music when you literally have decades and decades of the most amazing music to fall back on. :D

Thats because youre getting old. My grandparents used to complain about the Beatles and the Stones.

My great grandparents used to complain about Jazz and my parents complain about hiphop and electronic music... and so the cycle of life continues and we will all turn into closed-minded grumpy old sods.

I havent listened to any new music since about 2003 and so I am getting old myself...

You and just about everyone else missed the point of that post but whatever.....

I know there's plenty of other, better stuff out there. The point was that the Beatles were what was ultra popular to society back then. Now it's Bieber and dance music....

I stay away from the radio and will continue to.

State of the music industry

To those complaining about how music isn't as good as it used to be, how about you start paying people for the music they produce? They deserve it. Stop being unethical and put down some money you cheap #$@!%!

Personally it just isn't enjoyable to use iTunes. I actually use the MS Zune software to manage my music library, even though I've never had the device itself. Zune software is great, it's visually nice to work with and the Zune (Xbox) music pass is invaluable.

Over the last couple years, though, I do listen mostly to internet radio (sky.fm in particular) but keeping my collection current is still important.

A big overhaul/complete rework of iTunes is definitely needed.

I do. Most the albums I've brought in the last 3 years were pre-purchased months in advance from the artist direct (some via Kickstarter et al) generally with a nice vinyl box set to boot.

No no no....:apple:

Why let Android users have iTunes?
Dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life.

Tim Cook is an idiot driving Apple right into the ground.
Why is Apple now catering to Android users who don't buy Apple products instead of catering to the real Apple users and giving them what they want?

Just answer me this Mr. Cook Apple Inc. CEO, Now that Android will have iRunes what would be the reason to purchase an iPhone in the future?

You make no sense whatsoever. Please re-read what you just wrote,

Okay if you have iTunes on an Android device and all the apps Apple has for free why on earth would you buy an iPhone?
What will set iPhones apart from android phones besides the :apple: logo on the back? Apple is already starting to design phones like Android
