Foldable iPad makes a lot of sense to me, you can get a large iPad Pro screen, but only half the size when carrying it. Just hope that Apple will release only when the tech has matured enough that it’s reliable for 5+ year use
Macrumors always quotes from Ming Chi Kuo but never shows his face
Latest rumors have Apple investigating a 20" foldable screen. Some of you guys are very stultified. You can be sure Apple is investigation all possible configurations of phones, tablets and anything else they think might work. We’ll just have to see if they come up with something. The one thing we can be sure of is that they won’t have something unless they’ve solved the problems. If they do, then it will be a viable product.
I’m typing this in my iPad Pro 12.9” m2. I love the larger screen, but for some work I do with it, I’d like an even bigger screen. But anything above 14” would be too clumsy to carry around. But if it folded, I can see a 16”, which would be perfect. So if Apple fixed the fold problem and had a tough screen surface, which folding screens now don’t have, then I would be happy to spend the extra. My 16” M1 Macbook Pro cost several thousand, and that would be worth it to me for a large folding screen iPad. I know of others who feel the same. It wouldn’t be for everyone, but really, what it?
as for the rolling screen, iPhone or iPad, I just don’t see how Apple would work that out. The roll would be thick and clumsy. Then what would it be backed by when rolled out? Would there be some sort of back that would slide out behind it? Would dirt in the screen get in the rolls, scratching it? What sort of protective layer would cover it and be flexible enough to roll up in a tight roll? All of these questions need to be answered, and so far, following Apple patents in this, I haven’t seen any of them answered. So maybe it’s something Apple will never come out with. A folding screen is a much simpler solution.
That’s what people were saying about the Apple VR headset rumors and now everybody wants a Vision Pro.This would be a stupid product...there is no need for it.
Especially given the increased fragility of such a design. Yesterday I accidentally dropped my iPad when the wind blew my hat off and it was in a Targus padded case along with that fairly rigid form factor, so no worries. But the same reassured thoughts to what a flexible iPad implies, I really be hesitant to even buy something that couldn't withstand the occasionally situations where you accidentally drop a iPad.This would be a stupid product...there is no need for it.
No, they don't. At least not at $3,500 a popnow everybody wants a Vision Pro.
