Not sure how this year will go. Their MacBook line is pretty tired looking right now, unless you want the new netbook.
My first netbook had a 1.6ghz chip and cost 1/4 of the Macbook and it's still running like a charm, I think I bought it about 7 years ago. I think my last 1.1 ghz chip would have been over 10 years ago.

with the price of the new Macbook, i doubt they will make a significant increase in the next quarter.

wait -- did they stop selling their other laptops? Confused

these are tools, how on earth are they getting tired? are my power tools looking "tired" now, too? they haven't changed much...far less than my notebooks do. yet i still derive value from both sets of tools.

Lenovo is on the verge of overtaking Apple. 0.8M shy last year. 0.2M this year. If they increase like that again YoY, they'll end up slightly ahead of Apple.

Don't worry. If they do, we'll just tear into the numbers with lines like:

But how many different computer models do they sell?

or

But how many good laptops are they selling?

or the old favorite...

But who has the most profitable laptop sales? (see post #19 for example. He's being proactive).

We love and quote the numbers when they're positive on Apple and beat them down as fraudulent or misleading when they're negative. If Apple is not number 1 or surging, the math is wrong... or there's an agenda, etc. WE never let objective facts get in the way of our agenda. You know how this goes. You've been here long enough.

;)

I am going to buy the new Macbook to replace my MBA 2012. And I already knew for the fact that at least 20 people are going to get the new Macbook this year. I don't doubt the new laptop will make significant sales.

I don't understand how hp consistently ranks numero uno when their laptops are SO bad. I have one for work and I've had three hard drives in one year. What's really perplexing is how Dell went down almost the exact same amount when they are soo much better (than hp) imo.

Dell is utter garbage. We use them for laptops/desktops at work and they are junk. It's great to see them loosing marketshare!

I'd like to see the sales numbers for people who buy their own computers. It's easy for PCs to be on top when most of that is probably companies just robotically keeping the status quo. I'd like to see how the trend of people bucking the system by buying the computer they actually want to use reflects on Macs.

And you'll find that people tends to buy PC because of price.

Apple stuff is expensive there's no getting around it.

I don't know why anyone pays these "shipping estimates" any attention. Someone posted a comparison of these estimates vs actual reported numbers and they were so different as to be essentially unrelated.

That's cause DetroitBorg keeps buying em' all. ;)

Haha. :p

I sometimes do think he over does it. He even buys like the yearly upgrades of rMBP models. The changes Apple makes on those (just small spec bumps) are I think too little to bother to review.

Depends. I know a lot of people who have bought their own MacBookPros even though their employer is Windows-based.

Cheaper/price sensitive people tend to buy cheaper stuff. Wow, what a revelation. There are a lot of people who just need a cheap computer and don't care about power/design/portability/etc. So, yes, they will just buy a cheap PC.
This is why Macs will never have a 50% marketshare or whatever, just like the iPhones. Too many people on this earth that can barely even afford a $100 phones.

Ok, I'm new here but I got my first Mac, the new Mini 1.4ghz. the most entry level model. So far, I like it.

I think his aim is to be the most comprehensive reviewer on YouTube. I just visited his Twitter and he's ordered 5 Apple Watches. I hate that man so much.

By which I mean I am bitterly, bitterly jealous.

Although I do think ordering 5 is a little inconsiderate considering there's already gonna be supply constraints. But I guess all Apple care about is the sales, they don't care who they go to.

Thanks

Actually, if not for enterprise neither Dell nor HP would be on top.

Enterprise. Yeah. That's what I meant. And I figured DELL would be the case too. I have not seen more than 10 Dell's in my life outside of business context.
So I guess Macbooks really sell like hot cakes in the US. Nice.

Our corporation (100,000 +) employees only have three approved PC's...

Lenovo, Dell and Apple

Nice to see Apple ranking third in 1st Quarter sales and YoY and easily being the most expensive. I think Apple needs more than that overpriced MacBook if they want to stay up there in the top three. IMO

They do. They have a very well-priced MacBook Pro and Air, as well as their other Macs. As far as I'm concerned, Apple's lineup is still great, they just haven't added anything of value to it, besides the welcome spec-bumps of current models.

No idea why. None of the new Macs interest me. In comparison to the PPC and even the early Intel days, they're lousy and overpriced. Especially now OS X isn't exactly brilliant anymore (imo).

Great to see Lenovo are still on the rise, they do some superb hardware. I really wish Apple would take a leaf from their book sometimes.

Sounds like you may just be tired of the Apple ecosystem. I have found myself using Windows more often lately, just as a welcome change of pace. I am reminded of why I use OS X every time I do though, but it's still nice to go back every now and then. :)

You are going all in with this opinion.:D You seem to find it hard that others don't see things the same way as you. To me, the MB seems like a niche product at best. Aimed squarely at the gotta have the latest, thinnest crowd. This large demographic you see, yeah, it doesn't exist. You also say this isn't for someone who has an intensive work/play load. I would agree 100%. Thing is, most of the people who just want a quality functional laptop can get one that doesn't carry that heavy premium. Outside of the hi res screen, there's nothing really compelling about this machine. Just like the original Air was not an $1800 laptop, this MB is not a $1300 laptop. Price it for what it is, it might be more appealing.

To me, MBA's are a better value, and if someone is not locked into OSX, there are plenty of laptops that offer a better bang for the buck; hi res screen included.

I'm not sure where you see these millions of customers. Apple will probably sell between 6-7 million computers this year. I reckon the vast majority will be iMacs, MBAs, and MBP's. The MB will appeal to a smaller crowd; people like you. Once the price meets the performance, it may appeal to an even larger group.

Agreed. This new MacBook is simply overpriced, IMO. It's a "hey look what I just bought" machine for use at Starbucks or Barnes and Noble. It's lack of connections, weak processor, and other things make it somewhat limited.

The astute buyer would be MUCH better off with an MacBook air or a refurbished MacBook Pro that will outperform this new machine by a large margin.

Every time there is a "steady growth" of Mac sales, there is always a decline of PC sales

Is is the same one i wonder ??

How deep do u need to go before u do *not* get a "decline" anymore ?

This must be not happening in Australia, because PC's here are still as strong as ever...

Ya, we do we ever increasing Mac's here too. but there is something different about the U.S/Canada.

Maybe Microsoft/OEM's are "selectively" choosing their counties by false stating other stuff ? That's one theory.

5!?... I thought there would be some rule to buy only 1-2 max per person. Didn't MR post something about this a few days ago?

I think a HUGE reason why PC shipments are declining is because of the highly unloved Windows 8.x versions, which unfortunately force people to use that quirky Modern tiled element user interface much of the time.

But with the arrival of Windows 10 (my guess of release date: August 24, 2015, the 20th anniversary of the release of Windows 95), that could change overnight, since on desktops and "conventional" laptops, Windows 10 will start up with essentially an updated version of Desktop user interface. As such, that means a lot more corporate and government customers will want to upgrade, and that could drive a major uptick in PC sales.
