Apple dominates the sell-through market because there isn't really much competition. Everyone else seems to be going down the subscription/streaming route. I'm always surprised that nobody else has built an iTunes type buy to own "all in one store" format.

I bought 2 movies on iTunes. No more. Blu ray with digital copy for me

"In movie sales, iTunes generated 45% of unit sales, compared with 18% by Amazon Instant Video, 15% via Vudu, 14% through Xbox Video and 8% for other platforms."

In other words, at least 63% of the people who bought digital movies didn't much care that they were not in UltraViolet

I can understand that. I'm seriously considering doing the same. I've got a decent broadband connection but the HD files still take forever to download from iTunes and I'm now on my 3rd external portable hard drive in the space of a year.

I'm starting to think that maybe Apple have made a mistake with movies and tv shows. The iTunes music works well because their is only one format to chose and the near CD quality seems to satisfy most people. Those who want better continue to buy CDs. I wonder if Apple should have created a new single hybrid format for tv and movies - better than SD/DVD but not HD. One format to select with smaller file sizes designed primarily for the iPad. Those who want better or full HD quality could continue to buy BluRay disks just as those continue to buy CDs.

Is that not what iTunes 11 does already with the "Store <-> Library" button? Unless you mean make it into a separate app entirely. I'm not entirely sure what this would accomplish, unless I'm missing something.

I hate itunes 11 I find it very awkward perhaps because I am used to how it used to be but I just don't think its a great UI for device management

Its interesting to see What different people like. I would much rather prefer my home tv (a 50" sony) than on a movie screen. I think the movie theater quality isn't as good as my tv (even if the specs say it is). However I do feel as though I loose out on sound quality at home since I don't have a surround sounds system.

But to each their own.

I feel the same way personally, but with the family it's about going out, popcorn, etc., etc.
