Security through obscurity is not really security. Apple's vigilance regarding security is the only answer to hackers. Vendors will always be responding to whatever hackers devise, and they (hackers) are always devising new and more insidious attacks. Security, be it for Macs or PCs, is an never ending game of leap frog. I would hope members of this community wouldn't be susceptible to the naivete of complete Mac immunity. Less immune yes. That's a combination of smaller marketshare and Apple's vigilance; primarily vigilance in my opinion.....
Totally agreed, especially the bolded part.

I want to replace my 2011 MBA with the new MacBook, but its processor is too slow. I'm waiting for the next processor generation.

A better designed core OS is the larger reason. Not the "security by obscurity" nonsense. The most widely used server OS on the Internet is Linux. The most hacked is Windows. Good OS design can mitigate a LOT of issues.

On topic: Macduke said it nicely. Device capability is outstriping general consumer needs. Outside of niche power users, a mid range PC/Mac from 2012 can still meet the needs of the vast majority of the consuming public.

I'd even go lower than that. I still fire up my 2008 Unibody Macbook Pro. Besides a dead battery (actually recycled since it swelled), it still serves as a nice day to day machine.

I find it funny that when my Nephew went to Community College their school web pages need IE6 to be used! He actually pointed this out in his computer class (2009) and his professor was flabbergasted! The next year the student login just didn't need I.E. 6 anymore!

Getting XP on his Mac at the time has a hassle so he could use IE6 at the time!!! So I will bring up the old chant " Death To IE6"! :D

I am not sure why the us companies are soo fascinated with the Lenovo junk. Yes, I know, they used to be IBM, but that was long timeago. I have a work T430 that is barely two years old and my 2nd battery is about dead - keeps 1:30 min charge if I am lucky. I also have two years old macbook air (also work) that sees about half the usage as my lenovo and my macbook air battery feels like brand new.
the OS X cant compare to Windows, but the hardware is years ahead. For the next year, I am planning to go single laptop route and put Windows 10 in bootcamp for work and keep os x for screwing around at home

Please. The market is about money, and it's always about money. AAPL is not special or different. Sounds like somebody bought some shares and is letting emotion get the best of them.

I'm glad you think it's all about money, because that keeps you in check. Less competition for those of us who actually pay attention.
