The only innovation that is occurring with the iPhone is from not Apple, but from its customers. People have been coming up with amazing and creative work-arounds to accomplish simple tasks Apple has refused to develop.

It really is pathetic, the iPhone is amazing don't get me wrong. But there are some really pathetic quirks with it....it just really baffles me sometimes...if I only owned Apple....

I don't know what you use your laptop for, but I use mine for a whole lot more than listening to music and viewing photos.

Some people who can't afford a Mac may very do this. Sure, it's cheap, but some people have no other choice.

You can't seriously think the thing that's holding the iPhone back from replacing laptops is lack of copy and paste?

Not just c/p, but also a handful of other potential iPhone features Apple is holding back on. Most other smartphones are stand-alone devices that do not need to be sync'd with another computer and very well could be used insead of a laptop, mostly for people who don't do much on their computer (read: the average user who likely just plays games, checks email, and surfs the net) and those who can't afford a Mac (a lot of people currently). Right now, you can't use the iPhone without another computer to sync it to.

So very true, but isn't this the same with most successful businesses.

It's been a long time since the consumer was able to "have it their way".

Have you tried to customize you cell phone plan lately or customize your TV programming packages. Every time you do, it ends up costing you, the consumer more and more. These same companies even charge fees for downgrade services.

ALL of the consumer's options are geared towards increasing revenue for the company. Apples no different in their choices.

You're very right. But, Apple has been becoming relentlessly greedy lately. Every decision they have been making is with money in mind. No flash -> likely because they don't want to cut into their iTunes sales. No tethering -> at&t probably threatened to lower their subsidy. Same for MMS. Jailbreaking voids warranty -> a threat so people don't bypass the App store. Crappy camera that is worse than the ones that come with free cellphones-> just so they can sell more units a later when they release a camera that is finally up to industry standards.

Don't get me wrong, I love my PowerBook and my iPhone, but the unbending, noncompromising nature of Apple has been frustrating lately. Live.com is offering 25% cash back for certain purchases during the holidays. Bravo to Microsoft for sponsoring this. I would drop dead if Apple sponsored something like this. Instead, for Black Friday, we get 2 dollars off a 1000 dollar machine.

This would actually be a good way to implement it officially, but a little different, i.e. you swipe over the text to mark directly and then hold down on it and select an option 'copy' then hold down again on the spot you want to paste and select 'paste' from a pop-up option, instead of this loading of different web pages and clicking links =)

The 'pop-up' menu I refer to is kind of the same when you hold down on a link (the black little info thing).

But this is great anyhow. I will definitely try it out when it's released.

The problem with this is that the copy and pasting is done on another server, so it's not at all secure. That's why it's a start, but it's not a solution.

From twitter:
"Pastebud will be free to use. Premium users can also upgrade for $5/yr to get rid of the footer appended to all clipboards (think Hotmail)."

"Also, pastebud will also work on the iPod Touch, and doesn't require any jailbreaking or App Store install. Less than six hours to launch!"

You guys, don't pay $5 a year for copy and paste. Do it for free now with iCopy!!! Do a google search. I've been using it for a long time. It's free!

Edit: What do you know. It can ALSO email text!!! Why are people excited for this?
