Yesterday I ordered the same MBP 16 with M1 max, 32gb ram, and 1 TB ssd new from Costco for $2599 ($2890 with tax) and 4 year warranty... Don't know why people bother with refurbished anymore.

$3,449.99 - 350.00 - 500.00 (Shop card promo) = $2,599.99
Exactly. Costco. BH. Amazon. Micro center. Best Buy. All have better deals than refurbished. Only go refurbished when you don’t see a current deal. But right now there is a better for deal for new at so many different retailers. Anyone trying to justify going refurbished for certain models is fooling themselves.

Both refurb MacBooks I have bought developed problems.
MBP, graphics card failure
MBA, USB ports unreliable & constantly dropping connection

I might buy refurb again but if I have money to blow I would choose to buy new.

I love my base 14” M1 MacBook Pro but was looking to upgrade to a 16” Pro Max and give my base 14” to my wife. So i’m cautiously optimistic that the new 14 and 16 MacBook Pros will not be the duds that the base M2 MacBook Air and M2 iPad Pros have been. The M2’s have so far been huge disappointments. The M2’s thus far have had no reason to exist.
So even though i look forward to seeing the new M2 Pros, I’ll be picking up a M1 Pro Max on sale if the M2 14 and 16 are following the M2 dud trend.

Apple’s Refurbished Store has many BTO options that is not always available outside of the online Apple Store.

This is especially true for Macs.

Aye this. This was the only way I could get a 2TB M1 MBA w/o buying new. AAPL refurb helps to "right size" the value proposition for Apple products IMHO. I don't want to pay $$$ up for maintaining Tim's impossible task of exceeding shareholder/analyst growth expectations.

If there was a choice between a new Mac and an Apple Refurbished one with the exact specs I was wanting, I’d go with the Apple Refurbished every time.

I have gotten many Apple Refurbished products over the years, and they all worked out great.

My late 2018 Mac mini is a refurb and it has runs perfectly. Best part about the program is its still eligible for the AppleCare warranty too.

brand new entry level 14" @ Costco is ~$1600 on sale so refurbished is NOT the way to go 🤣
Really? When I go to their website I see a price of $1949 for that machine. Am I missing something? I'm not a Costco member so maybe that's not the member price?

Just wondering about something. How many cores does a gaming CPU have? Say GTX 3060.. Let's say Apple puts the same number of GPU cores into their SOC.. Will that compete OR is this just apple to oranges?

This is true but it works the other way too. There are many BTO models available on B&H and Amazon that are in stock while it can take months to get the same BTO model direct from Apple.

Refurbished models ship quickly in my experience.

A couple days ago, you could get a brand new MacBook Pro 16" high end for $3099 (less than Apple's refurb price) at Costco AND get a free $500 Costco gift card. That's a slick deal if you need that much computer. You could also buy 2 14" base model MBPs for $3200 and get the same $500 gift card. I think the free gift card deal is dead, but the computers are still cheaper than Apple refurbs. You gotta shop around these days. I would wait until Black Friday if you can.

You're right. I wasn't considering refurbished. I was really speaking to customers that need the latest right away. I've stopped going to Apple for that entirely.

love apple refurbs. not only do you save about 15% and you can still get appleCare just like a new machine, more than once i've ordered a particular refurb configuration only to receive a better machine (more ram, larger storage, better processor). not always, but it's happened.

Don't forget that the Apple Refurbished store discount also stacks with any miltary/veteran/education discount that you'd normally get from the Apple Store. That 14" base MacBook Pro goes from $1709 to $1538, with the additional discount. Which beats even the best deals from Amazon and other retailers.

I'm currently torn between doing this and waiting for the new M2 Pro. Wish I would have jumped on that Amazon deal though since their return period lasts through January 31st!
I didn't know this, how much is the educational discount on top of the refurbished savings? Thanks.
