Apple today announced that it has launched a Chinese version of its online store, bringing direct sales of Apple's full product lineup, as well as a broad array of third-party accessories, to the site.
"We are thrilled to open our newest online store in China," said Tim Cook, Apple's COO. “With personalized engraving, configure-to-order options and free shipping on everything, the Apple Store is a great destination for our customers in China."
The company also announced the launch of a Chinese language version of its popular App Store, offering its catalog of iOS application in Simplified Chinese with localized app features and charts.

Can we access the chinese APP store in US?

I think the whole idea is the whole world use the same App store, sure you can have chinese segment.... but I would rather disappointed if the chinese APP store is only to chinese, we here in US still get those shabby chinese version, as now.

Thank god, finally. I live in a town about 5 hrs by car from Shanghai so it's not too convenient to go there to buy something. I've been checking the store for a few months now ever since it went live.

Interestingly, according to the help page one can use an international credit card for payment. I wonder how well that will work. Think I might buy something and try it.

Now if the cn itunes store would just get music (even Chinese music would be OK), I'd be a happy dude.

LOL.. FREE shipping

At least they get FREE shipping. After all, all of Apple's products are manufactured there. Imagine the cost of an iMac if it were manufactured in the USA??? On second thought, let's keep making them in China.

With China's population over 1.3 Billion, it won't be long before Steve's keynotes sound like a McDonald's advertisement stating billions and billions served!

However the pricing is about 10% more than, for example, the Singapore store (which also always offers free shipping). Example: Macbook Pro 15" 2.53 which I recent bought in Singapore for S$2888 is S$3116 at today's exchange rate. :(

I suppose the difference is GST/VAT. GST in Singapore is 7%, whereas VAT in China is 17%.

Truer words were never spoken

Just a few months ago, Liu Chuanzhi, the chairman of Lenovo, said:

“We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.”

Well, Mr. Liu, Lenovo is now officially in trouble.

Great! Is there an English-language version of the site? I didn't see anything, but I'm hoping I just missed it.

Woot!

Another Billion Customers. :D

It's nice to see the focus on China. I've only been to Shanghai and Beijing, but both cities are booming. Shanghai in particular was an extremely impressive modern high-tech city.

Not Really, i mean, as long as Lenovo can lower their price lower enough. Apple doesn't stand a chance to complete with Lenovo in China. Mainstream Chinese or average Chinese user just wouldn't buy Apple product given the average monthly salary around 2000-3000 Yuan and the cheapest macbook cost around 8000 chinese yuan. So, there you go. Beside, Chinese are good at saving and they NEED saving money for University and for medical care. So, there you go. The average chinese won't spend 8000 yuan for a Macbook that isn't compatible with nearly everything they are using. I am Chinese, so i know what kind of softwares that Chinese people frequently use. One of the example is a downloading software called: Thunder (in Chinese, it called 迅雷, no Mac OS X version). Yes, i know you can install Windows on Mac, but what is the point for using Windows under Mac? So, i mean, yes, Apple product might be popular among the younger generation, but those young generation has no way to afford Apple's product.

LOL... Good that you like Shanghai... However, only rich Chinese ppls can afford Apple's product... Sad... There is no way like my family can even afford Apple's product. Here is a little explanation:
When my family were in China, my parents earn around $4000 per month together. Aside from mortgage for the condo which will take nearly half of the income. We still need pay for food, electricity, water, internet, cable. We also need saving money for my University. Medical care in China is a big expense, you are looking for minimum 1000 yuan per day if you need living in hospital. So, there is not a lot left from monthly income. You might see lots of expensive cars, rich people. But that's only count for tiny percentage of Chinese population.
Oh, by the way. Mac is only has 0.2% market share in China (i read a news article while ago).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Apple even makes pretty pictures for the Chinese? No, but really, it took ol' Apple that long to make their usual website with the Chinese language?

I just saw the well known iPhone 4 commercial (the FaceTime one) on TV (CCTV 1) here, now with chinese actors. It looks like Apple has started a major offensive in China.

I just did a number crunch then using the dashboard currency conversion - its good to see that Apple is pricing it around the same as the New Zealand store as so far as dollar to dollar comparison. Hopefully with the rise of the middle class in China there will be a lusting after consumer products that represent new found wealth :)
