They look great, espcially in the brown color. But €/$200 is crazy. You can get even nicer, custom and 100% handmade ones on Etsy for a lot less.

I wonder if the world's most eco-friendly company knows the environment impact of producing leather? Or raising cattle?
I'm sure that people at Apple are fully aware of how bad it is for the environment to procure leather. I'm sure that Tim Cook (who had to have given these leather products the green light) probably weighed the negatives against putting out a product that makes the company look high-fashion, and he decided to go with high-fashion. He loves to toot his horn every chance he gets about how Apple is such a progressive company that's always doing what it can to make the world a better place, but when you see things like this, anyone with a brain would realize that Cook is full of bull, and he's just trying to manipulate the masses with public relations sound bites that make him and the company look good on the surface. If Apple were more authentic about being environmentally-friendly, they never would have these leather products. I think Cook has a big desire to be chic, and that's probably why he pulled the Burberry CEO to head retail, and shortly after doing that, they came out with leather iPhone and iPad cases as well as leather Watch bands to go along with those reduculous gold edition Watches that must have been poor sellers because they pulled them and the pop-up stores that sold them in chic places like the fancy mall in Paris. Hopefully someone else will get the reigns soon, and hopefully they'll focus on what customers really care about, which is awesome quality digital products and not fashion pieces.

Would see the prices in my country and take a call if to buy or not. some times, I feel like having a thin sleeve instead of just tossing it in the backpack or shoulder bag, and this would be it, if I ever buy a sleeve.

The prices are exorbitant to say the least.

Tim Cook's Apple has brought a lot of Apple branded leather products to market. A real shame that Apple is not taking the cruelty-free route. There are plenty of other material choices and options that work better than leather at protecting phones and laptops anyway. Shame on Tim Cook.

You might have a problem with leather but most people do not.

Bring on the leather Cook!

are you not allowed to reply to people unless they quote your thread? sorry wasn't aware of the rules.

It's just odd your reply, as if I'd asked you a question but I didn't. Feel free to post, I wasn't annoyed more bemused.

For the people saying “omg you can get a way nicer one for much cheaper than Apple’s,” just remember it won’t have the Apple logo on it. You can get a way nicer handbag for half the price of a Louis Vuitton one but it won’t have the LV logo. Welcome to the horrible world of branding we live in.

Seriously now, is that how you really think of these sleeves, without even ever seeing one in person?

It is entirely possible that these are amidst the best of sleeves one can buy for 2016+ notebooks. Also, it isn't about the Apple logo. It is just about something as simple and sleek as the Macbook itself, in good quality leather that should last the lifetime of the notebook and more.

Huh? I know how branding works, I don’t know why I’d need to see one in person to understand that...

Agree with you on branding. But come on, I have come to understand and experience that you get what you pay for, most of the times. You pay some more because of a logo, whether you want one or not. But more often than not, the product itself is quite good and desirable. It can't just be set aside as a marketing thing.

The sleeves have got to perform to be able to deserve the price tag, is what I meant. Sure, it is on a rather high side, but it means that quality should be quite good, otherwise it won't sell.

Do help me out where I got it wrong. :)

Speaking from experience with the iPad Pro sleeves, Apple uses paper-thin sheets of leather. You can get sleeves with thicker, higher quality Italian leather for cheaper. Now, this could be different for the MacBook Pro sleeves, but people have already said that they’ve found sleeves like these to be nicer and also cheaper than Apple’s option. https://www.carlfriedrik.com/products/15-inch-leather-macbook-sleeve-walton?variant=8241260494943
