I have just invested in some WiFi plugs and bulbs… I hope to god they still work 😑

I updated to the new HomeKit architecture when it was first released and never had a moments problem with it. My smart home has grown considerably in devices in that time, both with wifi and thread based devices. Everything runs great within the Apple Home app.

Very annoying - my son uses HK on an older 8-plus. Works flawlessly.

Thanks Tim for taking it from him! No we aren’t getting him a new phone anytime soon!

Just maybe, there aren't any Homekit connected smoke detectors because they have to be 100% reliable.
I have no doubt but that liability and lawyers are somehow part of the reason, but actual reliability of smoke/CO detectors wouldn't be dependent on whether HomeKit is functioning properly or not. It's no different than a smart lightswitch. You can still operate the switch manually even if the your wifi is all the way down. A smoke detector will still detect smoke and set off its alarm even if your HomeKit gear is on the fritz.

I have old iPad Pro that iOS can't be updated anymore. I have it around to do simple stuff. Like control various devices. I guess with this transition, I assume it will no longer work. Unless this upgrade is all on Apple server side.
