1. Got tired of paying a yearly subscription (not that the price was too high). Strongbox has a good free version. I opted for the one time fee for Mac and iOS.Thanks. What made you decide on Strongbox rather than 1Password?

2. I like being able to talk directly to the developer of Strongbox and get a timely reply, versus 1Password, which seems to have struggled with customer support over the last 2 years. I wasn't happy with replies when I got one.
3. I didn't like my data being stored on 1Password servers versus the local hosting option (Apple iCloud storage or another cloud provider) with Strongbox.
4. I didn't like that doing a backup of my 1password vault didn't include everything.
5. I never did like having to log into 1Password on the web in order to change the vault password.
6. I found the Strongbox UI much more fluid and easier to navigate and use than 1Password
7. I like the new Strongbox features that allow you to set an app reminder to do a backup etc.
8. With Strongbox, I can set a PIN code in addition to Face ID for added security.
These are just a few of the reasons

As you found out, Strongbox is Apple only.God dawn it Strongbox has no windows support oh well. No big deal.
Though I like this option for it!

I got the lifetime Strongbox on sale (Mac and iOS) for less than $70, which I thought was a good deal.
I do a LAN sync with 1Password so no data is stored on a server ever! Yes, I don't like the subscription model either. When you say a backup of my 1Password vault didn't include everything - what are you referring to?1. Got tired of paying a yearly subscription (not that the price was too high). If I remember correctly, not all of the documents (or attached documents) that were a part of the personal vault could be backed up. I asked 1Password about this several times over the years and they kept punting the tech ball away with no resolution, which I found frustrating.I do a LAN sync with 1Password so no data is stored on a server ever! I will give the free version a try and go from there.
Thank you for the information.
I agree with you about the sub model. I think now all the notes and attached documents are backed up, so perhaps they added that feature later. If I remember correctly, not all of the documents (or attached documents) that were a part of the personal vault could be backed up. In the early days, (pre sub) I was very pleased with 1Password. The longer I went with the sub, the less happy I was. I still think it is a good product. However, I also believe there is quality competition (as mentioned) that can aptly fill the need without the increased Teams / Business focus with a sub model.
For me, a nicer UI and larger team behind it to support it including a focus on Mac development. At $36, what does 1Password have that Bitdefender, at $10, does not?
1Password is the best $36 I spend each year. Well deserved!
One thing I dislike about some of these password managers is they try to combine too much stuff. Like document storage, VPN, ant-virus to justify the ongoing subscription price.I have the license, but I agree its worth it. It really does make your life better but I learned that having one player in the market is dangerous so I am hoping others are using alternative apps like Last Pass, BitWarden, and whatever is out there.
Maybe others are similar or better, I honestly never gave it a try. One thing that makes me stick with 1password is the great support.
I feel that way about so much of Panic’s software. It’s one of those apps that I wish I had a good reason to use — looks so thoughtful even beyond the slick design.
